A perennial favorite on best-of lists for good reason, this bustling upscale eatery fills up fast with families and business groups looking for the best Cantonese food in Beijing. The extended dim sum menu on weekends is entirely in Chinese, but there is a sophisticated bilingual menu, and staff members are fluent in Cantonese and English.
A large menu seafood, steamed dishes, braised/stewed meats and fresh vegetables, Lei Garden is a reasonable restaurant with a contemporary setting. This is an outlet of the famous Hong Kong group that also has outlets in Singapore and Guang Zhou.
Dim sum (about RMB 12-18) is available during lunch hours and perhaps the main reason to visit. They also have large crab selection (RMB 12-48), herbal soups and a chef's recommended soup. The braised spareribs with ginger and orange sauce (RMB 68) and chicken steamed in lotus leaf (RMB 68) are quite nice. I personally don’t like the fact that they serve (very expensive) sharks fin. Wines (a good selection) seem to range from RMB 300 to very, very expensive per bottle.
The service is OK however insist on a table away from the wait staff thoroughfares or its bump, bump, bump all through lunch. Some seating is also uncomfortable if you sit in front of the air-conditioning.
Actually on reflection this restaurant overall is a little too expensive for what you get.
