Not an up-market restaurant by any means, Chaoshan is nevertheless extremely popular thanks to its fantastic Chaozhou food, fast and pleasant service and great value. Try the stir fried special fish cake, pickled vegetables and beef tenderloin in Chaoshan special sauce.

Try their chewy fried squid balls dipped in sweet sauce! You know how hotpot or other Chinese style restaurants in Beijing have those doughy and really soft fish balls or meat balls...(not nice...) but Chaoshan's is good! Food is quite delicious and service is good. Though it was quite an exhausting experience to catch flies while eating... they definitely should kill the little flying bugs.

This place has excellent food and fast and pleasant service.
Not an up-market restaurant by any means however if you want authentic well prepared Chaozhou (Teochew to some) food this is a great place to eat. This being my wife's dialect and not having time to cook the restaurant, particularly when we first arrived, almost became our second dining room.
A typical meal; Stir fried special fish cake with cuttle fish, pickled vegetable and salt (excellent), egg cake (omelet) with chinese radish (rather than oysters) and beef tenderloin in Chaoshan special sauce. Add to that a stir fried vegetable of your choice and you go home more than satisfied. If you you smile at the 'outside' chef you may even be given a small serving what I know as "ikan bilis" (salted anchovies), which are great with beer, as a bonus. Our bill was RMB124 and there was even enough left to 'tapow' or 'dapao' (take home). You can also take your own wines.
The real test... the place is always busy and mainly with locals. The English spoken is not great however the menu has a sort of English translation so you can get the gist of what you may want to order.
