This restaurant, located in Soho Shangdu shopping mall, was opened by actress Gao Yuanyuan. It serves up tasty, albeit hit-and-miss Guizhou cuisine in a setting cozy enough to make you forget you're eating in a mall. Menu is in Chinese only, but ask for the tangyuan (sesame balls) stir-fried in pickled vegetables, and you're guaranteed to walk away happy.

Description

Another restaurant in the line of venues openend by Chinese actresses (in this case Gao Yuanyuan) Honey Honey serves up modern takes on Guizhou cuisine. Despite the fact that it is set in a mall, it has a cozy atmosphere. The restaurant is decorated in deep purples and silver, and French Jazz is playing in the background. As far as cozy, mall dining goes, this has to be amongst the best.

Food courts have come a long way, and actress Gao Yuanyuan has taken the concept to the next level with her new Guizhou restaurant, Honey Honey. Sure it’s in a mall and decorated with stuff from Ikea, but the place is cozy, sporting silver drapes and purple velvet chairs. The food is hit or miss, but fortunately the more interesting dishes were the hits, like the tangyuan (sesame balls) stir-fried in pickled vegetables (¥28) and the xiangmao lemon chicken (¥32). The Guizhou shenglu fried rice (¥18) was both spicy and hearty, perfect for the brave palette, but perhaps overwhelming for others. If that’s the case, the mitang qingcai soup (¥16) makes a great alternative. The menu is in Chinese only, so bring your pengyoumen.

Stopped in this evening for dinner, and I agree that it is a cozy place, with good service too. For the newbies out there(like me) note that it is in the East tower, not the West, and that it has no English whatsoever on the sign. However, when you exit the 3rd floor escalator, it will be directly on your right. The picture of a plum on a black background is the place you are looking for. They must have added some english to the menu, because I had no problem picking out the lemon chicken and and spicy/sweet cheese balls . The 500 ml TsingTao Beer for 10 RMB was a nice touch. The young lady even gave me some sweet bean soup, which I gobbled up. The food was tasty, and I stumbled away full and happy for 66 RMB total. I am here for a couple weeks this time around, so if anyone can suggest other reasonable places not too far away, I might be up for dinner. Drop me a line. Tanoshii_Japan@yahoo.com

A joyful little oasis in an otherwise abandoned desert.

This small restaurant is very nicely decorated, the interior is harmonious and comfortable. The cushy seating, the dimmed lights and the gentle music (Astrud Gilberto) are what i often miss in this city, where size matters most.

The food was very delicious, tasty and well presented. For me it was not hit and miss, it was more like good but not special and interesting and really good. With a little more effort it could easily play in an even higher league. The service was a little abrasive, but ok.

All in all worth the money (it wont be much)
