This truly lovely European restaurant of minimalist décor, done up in purple, white and black, features high-end cuisine without the high-end price tag. If you're planning for a special occasion, book the private Purple Room for that perfect dine and wine experience. Check out their new cocotte menus, little iron pots serving up meat, egg and vegetable stews.

my favourite 'straight' western restaurant - best value lunch in Bj (98rmb for appetisers+bread, 2 courses of excellent quality with wine and good coffee is a steal) An instant favourite with all the friends I have taken there Service is also very good and friendly Check out how busy it is from Monday - Friday to see a successful formula in operation!

the food is definitely good, but i more like their desert, since i like sweet stuff...the price is ok,,worth able,, and they have the best wine...

James King, I was not "going around asking for a free meal". I don't think 100 yuan is expensive at all, and I obviously can afford it or else I wouldn't have bothered going. The reason why I say I thought the meal should have been comped is because I have been to other restaurants before, and if something as gross as an insect crawling on your plate happened there, they would have comped it.

I am quiet shocked by the above testimonial. My husband and I always go there 2 or 3 times weekly. We have never encountered any problems like that. The food is very divine. And they have unique idea with the cocotte. The staff are very professional and friendly. Most specially the filipino girl. She speak very well. For that we dont need to worry about our chinese. This is one our favorite restaurants in beijing. So i recommend anyone looking for a good food and service, this is the place.

I am very surprised by the the above comment as I have been to W many times and the service is always superb. The staff are well-trained, amiable and professional and they have a very experienced manager who knows many customers by name. Their menu for the Gourmet month, which I have tried, is so reasonably priced (and delicious) I don't think patrons should be going around asking for a free meal! The food at W is always consistently good and I have to say what they created for Gourmet month was one of the best in town. You should go back again to try their mouth-watering grilled foie gras with spice bread, turbo salsa and their tiramisu which I absolutely love.

I went last weekend with my friend to check this place out bc of Gourmet Month. The gazpacho was a little on the salty side but edible. The main dish of salmon was over cooked, but the potatoes were good, and I really loved the dill sauce. The desserts were alright. The molten chocolate cake was not done properly though. The main complaint I had was that there was an ant crawling on my dish. I had to kill it, then I called the waiter over to see it, and see if there was anything he could do as far as comping the meal or something. All he did was just change the plate. Never once did he ask the manager to come over to speak to us, or make any attempt at an apology. We finally asked the manager to come over, and we explained our problem that there was an ant crawling on our dish. He said there wasn't anything he could do as far as the comping the meal, but he would give us a free dessert. That was decent of him I suppose. There weren't that many patrons while we were there, but when we left none of the staff said bye to us. They did not open the door for us either. I found this odd considering that about twenty minutes prior, another couple was leaving and they said by to them. Overall, I was underwhelmed with this restaurant. I was expecting so much more after all these rave reviews I saw on this website.

Went for late lunch on a Saturday afternoon at 2PM. No one was there, but not such a bad thing. They made fresh bread for me so that was nice. The set lunch was very affordable at about 100RMB, and a good price for one appetizer and one main dish. During the day the decor is stylish that is for sure but just seemed a little cheesy especially the black plastic chairs with purple, but hey maybe it works better at night.

Good wine needs no bush, although this eatery house in a corner enclosured by cypresses,it's an always popular venue among expats and the local gourmet diners.i am a guy pursuing for new things,i t was hard to imagine i would miss their extensive cocotte menu priced at 28/38/ 58.two portions of cocotte is enough to one person, you can taste different flavor with different ingredients comes to an different but definite fascinating end!

Perfect... The new cocottes concept is really good and not expensive. And for the one that don't like to change, do not worry you can still order all the usual starters and mains course you used to take.

-
Amazing new menu! Love the "cocottes". And to carry this, the chef offers a new wine list with several bottles around 150 to 200RMB. To sum, it's good and the price is more than honest. I strongly recommend the W.

Went there yesterday, we were one of the few diners (perhaps not unusual for a Sunday night). We had great food & wine, attentive service, and I loved the decor. Would recommend this to anybody if they're looking for a break from Chinese cuisine

Lunch and dinner sets for a song, excellent service and consistently good quality dishes. This restaurant is where I'll head if I'm having a bad day and not prepared for culinary surprises.

W serves up the best grilled salmon in Beijing! I like to request it medium (instead of well-done) and it comes out to just the perfect balance of flavor and juiciness. The salads are crisp and delicious and there's always tasty vegetarian options on the menu too! The service is great and the decor is sleek and modern...definitely worth many return visits!

Bendevos, I found another great value restaurant in Beijing. Amigo located at CBD Central Park and this location is difinitely heart of Beijing. The weekly set menu is RMB60 for 2 courses & RMB80 for 3 courses. Now, Amigo started the wine by glass just costs RMB20 go with the lunch set menu and the quality is giving people surprise. It is absolutely great price with great food & wine.

Such an excellent place for lunch .. great menu and welcoming staff .. good value for money

I have some trouble understand what I just read... How can you say that for 1 more Euro this restaurant is less attractive to you? I am having lunch and diner at W many times in months, why? The best value you can find in Beijing (98 rmb: glass of wine, starter, main course, coffee and mignardises)!!! I have been around for a long time and I still did not find anything like it. For you Xigor, you can go to all the restaurant that does have 60 rmb or 78 rmb menus but if you want a glass of wine OR a coffee, you will pay more. One more thing I do appreciate, this restaurant change his menu every week!!! Oh I forgot again for you Xigor, instead of criticizing, check the market and you will discover that most of the row materiel as well as dairy product increase a lot… I will continue to go to W for his creativity as well as amazing, and ESPECIALLY FOR THIS LITTLE PRICE.
-
-
In fairness, you can hardly blame them for adding RMB10 to the lunch menu with the rate of inflation in China and the increase in prices of ingredients!? Surely! still a great deal, still great food, still great atmos!

W dine & wine remains one of my favorite places for a great meal. It's got all the marks of a fine restaurant in Europe - wonderful presentation, fresh innovative food, trendy design and crowd, personalized service - at prices you can only find in China. Anyone who thinks a 98 rmb business lunch is too high a price tag is surely a victim of being in China for too long.
-
-
This restaurant is another victim of its success and because the place was always full during lunch, they raised their set lunch price to 98 RMB. It's getting less attractive now...

Yeah, I echo what juhuacha said about their attentive service, I had the same experience a few days ago when I went there for the first time. I ordered the beef cappacio which turned out not the way I like it, the waiter saw that I had only 2 bites of the dish when he was clearing the plates, and immediately asked if I would like a different appetizer. It was definitely a pleasant surprise as although this is supposedly basic gesture in upscale restaurants overseas, I've never came across it here in Beijing. Well, perhaps it was also because the Filipino waiter was trained overseas? Anyway, my girlfriends and I were all so impressed that we have immediately decided that we'll refer this restaurant to everyone we know :-)
Oh, btw, the alternative appetizer was great (a soup), and the whole meal was great, so my friends and I will be frequent customers there for sure.

One of my favorite places to "do lunch" and I have always had the best of conversations with my friends over lunch at W.
Not only is there fabulous food and superb service, but the one time that I just didn't happen to like the dish that I had chosen (they saw that I was not touching it and came over to enquire) they instantly took it away and brought me another choice. How great is that? :)

this restaurant is doing things well - great food and presentation, good wine, and attentive but not too intrusive service. Tables are a slightly closer together but the decor is minimalist and this includes the tables which are uncluttered. Nice selection of vegetarian dishes on the menu as well.

These kind of places very few in Beijing, Good food nice presentation,Care taking Indian manager ,good staff, with less seats for lunch they should have more space, great wines/

Fantastic! Lovely restaurant...food, service, wine....the lot.. little on the expensive side but well worth it. For sure a top 'date' location!
-
-
Excellent lunch value for RMB 88! Good service with great food. However the tables are just too near from each other, which prevents to create a romantic atmosphere.
-
-
If you think this place is pricey you can also stop by and order the set lunch for only RMB88. The wine and desserts may be smallish, but its quality food that comes from good sources. The restaurant is small in comparison to some, but I don't think the regular embassy lunch crowd seems to mind. I on the other hand, make a a point of sitting outside on the cozy patio.
-
-
It's a place for trying out new style of European food, however, the wine by glass is very small and with very few choices. Tables are crowded due to limited space, it just can't keep you for too long in those plastic chairs and so called "minimalism" decor.

-
Fabulous place. Great food, great wine and a great atmosphere. A little pricey but well worth a visit.
-
-
This is an excellent restaurant to have a "break up meal". I thought the food was good and service attentive, but it is expensive. Makes breaking up all the more painful. Their wine list helps out!
-
-
Fantastic Very impress with the whole experience. Very nice interior & attentive staff. Try the excellent BARGAIN !!! set lunch. For 2 course with comp glass of wine by the glass or drinks @ RMB 88. Food presentation very impressive & quality without doubt. Looks like it my regular Saturday lunch venue. Kudos to the team.

Great Food & Great Price 5 of us had dinner there last week and the food was really excellent and incredibly affordable. Portions were copious, decoration is really trendy and the wine was cheap and good. Keep up the good work team!

A Wonderful Experience i was really impressed.great food!and i'm so happy about the well chosen selection of wines.

W dine & wine can be summed up in one word: Charming. You might not think that when you enter. The décor looks like something out of NYC, up-market modernist with black swivel chairs and sleek lines. But don’t be intimidated into thinking W dine & wine is meant for the trendy and wealthy, this restaurant is meant for the mid-range customers.
The owner of W dine & wine, Geoffrey Weckx had actually changed the design of the restaurant to black sophisticate so as to make the place more approachable to locals, who were apprehensive of the prices when earlier when everything was in purple with rich curtains. Though the new scheme doesn’t necessarily alleviate that fear, the friendly English speaking staff and service soon causes you to ease back into the comfy surroundings.
Of course that is what Mr. Weckx wanted, which something you wouldn’t expect from someone with his background. For 20 years he has worked around the world in restaurants and hotels and even for three-star Michelin restaurants. Twelve years ago he fell in love with Beijing, a city where anything can happen, and he found that for all its charm, there were no charming mid-range casual restaurants with innovative and creative cuisine. This Belgium decided to change that.
And he has. Situated right across from the Canadian Embassy, W Dine and Wine is packed every lunch due to their great 98 rmb business lunches. The white-collared European executives have found the perfect spot to network and still fill themselves on house wine, appetizers, main dishes, and coffee and pastries. The weekends have become popular for families, and the romantics even come here for some loving; Valentine’s Day was exceptionally popular.
This relaxing and casual atmosphere is perfect for everyone; divided into three different sections, there are the informal round tables for families, the formal long tables for business meetings, and the quiet spots for couples. There is also on offer a VIP room for parties or smokers, separated by a large round window. Cool and dark, there is no booking charge, and one can simply make a reservation for 10 to 12 people.
However, what makes this place the best European contemporary dining experience in my book is the quality of the food and what they offer their guests. This is the only place I have found where they make their own bread on the premises, and make it complimentary and never ending! Every customer gets a neatly presented set of 3 sauces: tapenade sauce with olives and anchovy, pumpkin sauce, and roasted onion and tomato roasted garlic sauce. It is presented with fresh baked warm sesame seed bread or fresh focaccia bread. The sesame was incredible crusty yet warm and soft bread, something I have not found even at the numerous bread shops here. And the focaccia was even better; there is nothing I can say but that it was absolutely perfect, spot on focaccia. The sauces only added to it. The tapenade was the favorite but each was good on its own and light, however mixing them all together turned into an amazing dip!
The house wine was also a pleasant surprise. Most house wines tend to be of low quality, but the Argentina Osaaada Shiraz Cabernet-Sauvignon San Juan for 130 rmb had a good structure and smell. The Osaada Chardonnay Chenin Blanc white wine was nice a fruity, with a rich body and easy to drink.
The lunch only got better from there. Our appetizers (50 to 88 rmb) arrived in sync, and straight away we could see that these were not going to be any traditional European dishes. Elegantly presented, the duck liver on spice bread was the best appetizer I have ever tasted. With one bite, all the tastes hit you. Soft, moist, the duck liver still had a very rich beef taste to it, and when combined with the caramelized apple and celeriac puree on top of the spice bread, it became a part of cinnamon and nutmeg in your mouth. The contrast actually compliments each other, turning it into a hearty and smooth and rich experience.
The Basil Avocado Ricotta was another flavorful starter and the marinated artichoke from Italy with the water cress and horseradish turned this dish into a unique and lovely sweet yet savory meal. Our third starter, the Avocado and Alaska King Crab was lemony tangy and tart, and a great tongue tantalizer.
The soups were also picking me ups. The Consommé clear soup with vegetables, made of egg whites, minced beef, and beef stock reminded me of a chicken noodle soup. My friend adored it, calling it spicy and delicious, but I was swayed by the Mushroom soup, reminded me of cappuccino froth, and giving my other friend a “mouthgasm” or sorts. She described it as tasting like only the good parts of the mushroom, meaning it didn’t have an overpoweringly mushroom taste to it. .
The best treat was yet to come: the Cocottes! W dine & wine is the first restaurant in Beijing to introduce cocotte dishes in its menu. Cocotte (“koh-kot”) is a cast-iron pot traditionally used for stews. In French, “la cocotte” means both “casserole” and “darling.” It has heat-retaining, flavor enhancing, indestructible practicality, and it is a hit among children!
The Cocotte (28 rmb) is what W dine &wine’s experience is all about: casual sharing meals! The cocotte is the perfect excuse to mingle. For the first time, I interviewed two customers who raved about the food and experience of the restaurant. Not only can you taste the quality, but the meals are children friendly, and you get the best value for your money with the free mini cakes, and bread. The cocotte dishes were simple yet tantalizing. The prawn cocotte was a mixture of Thai and Spanish style prawns, while the potato puree was crispy and creamy. The beef stew had some of the most tender meat I have had in a long, long time, and carrots with the cumin was just teasing you to keep eating. The lamb stew was also satisfyingly moist, and the mushrooms were moist and juicy! Yet my favorites were the red wine risotto, a savory warm and unique dish, and the salmon lasagna with ricotta, to which all I can say is “Nice!”
As if nothing could top that meal, we were presented with three phenomenal desserts (38 to 58 rmb). My favorite dessert, crème brulee, was transformed into a lightly crispy sweet dish by using brown sugar with Madagascar vanilla. It was mouth watering. The 72% chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream was quite rich in taste, though definitely not as sweet as one might think. It is a grown-ups cake that makes one feel elegant and sophisticated, rather than sugar high. It may be a bit too dry for chocoholics. But the best dessert was the Tiramisu with raspberry sauce. I hate anything with any kind of coffee taste to it, but this Tiramisu, made with amaretto, was light and chilled on ice. The Banana mascarpone it was topped off with and the raspberry sauce drizzled on top turned it into something I just couldn’t put down. Some, including ex-pat Italians, have called it the best Tiramisu ever, while otherwise have called it average only. This Tiramisu is not meant for hard core coffee lovers and alcohol loves. Be prepared for a tart sugar explosion in your mouth rather than the wine and coffee explosion that usually accompanies tiramisu.
We finish our dining experience with samples of their Belgium French fries, popular with the children. They were large and long rectangular chunks of home-made potato. Moist and nicely salted they were not of the deep-friend variety at all, and an obvious choice of side dish. As we left the restaurant we were given mini cakes or mignardises, which finished the experience with a charming spongy and sweet end.
There is nothing about W dine & wine, I would change. Everything was perfect and oh so charmingly casual. The only flaw in the entire restaurant is the sign on the outside, that most be revamped for the sake of all Beijingers, so they know where this place is!
