Set inside a restored hutong, this venue's quaint atmosphere comes complete with a chalkboard menu, candlelit tables and a large bar featuring well-selected house wines and lots of pastis. The chef buys and cuts all the meat himself, resulting in some top flight cuts on offer here.

Prices low and great atmosphere! I totally disagree with xigor's post. RMB 200 for two to have entrees, main courses, desserts and a bottle of wine (main course being GREAT STEAK...). I'm sorry, but that's an amazing price in Beijing. The atmosphere is nothing but friendly, and bustling with conversation and a regular crowd. This is such a friendly place with really amazing food.

In Cafe de la Poste, 200 RMB is the price per person for 3 courses + wine. In Flo, for 158 RMB, I get a 4 courses meal with a glass of wine, but at least I'm getting myself full and I receive proper service from trained waiters.

Take it up with City Weekend. Even they quote the price at 200-299 for a COUPLE. Anyway, will check out Flo for this so-called 4-course 158 RMB meal. Flo is also an excellent restaurant as well so worth the chance.

Being a vegetarian, I really appreciate a French restaurant that has so many options for me. And damn, I find the smoky atmosphere authentic and charming!

Love love love this place! Just thinking of the tartare is making my mouth water! Make sure to make a reservation though or you may be sitting at the bar for a while.

You pay for what you get: since prices are low, so is the quality. Sure, "top cuts of meat"--as long as the competition is other Chinese-raised, flavorless, starved beef. Tartar was bland, steak was stringy, the baguette--what the French generally do best!--was doughy and sweet (Chinese-style) and the goat's cheese must have come from the local Jingkelong. The only thing this place wins on is ambiance--smoky, noisy, and full of artsy expats. come for a pre- or post-dinner drink; save your appetite for other spots.

Based on the previous comment, it seems this place went further down in terms of quality.
I also agree it's a nice place for cheap drinks and smoky atmosphere reminiscent of French bistro. The only difference is that restaurants and bars do not allow smoking anymore in France. It's a pity Cafe de la Poste didn't apply this rule to them; I could have given them 2 stars.

Price is good. Food is decent. The owners visit the tables which is very very charming and our waiter was really cool and efficient about getting our order right when they made a mistake. My girl and I got too well plastered here. Careful with Armand's after-dinner infused vodka, it's not as innocent as it seems.
It wasn't terribly smoky for us, we were there around 8 on a Thursday night. (I do agree with Xigor though about the smoking ban but that is a whole nother meatball).

I've heard so much about this place and was totally disappointed when finally went there yesterday.
My potato pie was few days old, as all potatoes inside were blackish. Grilled pepper with cheese was reheated and in noway freshly grilled. I actually got tomato salad that was bad. Kus-kus was awfully plain and baguettes were a disappointment too... And all this for 72 kuai? That's way too much. And it's not even about the money - I don't get why someone wants to serve bad food in his own place? Have some respect to people, at least serve fresh food!
And although the waiter looked nice, we had to hunt him through all the meal as he didn't pay much attention to our table.

The atmosphere of this small restaurant is nice and familial, it resembles some real French bistros i've been too. The waiter is really a nice guy, always keen to help, though he appears to be a little confused. The food was decent and worth its money. The cheese plate was good is a good deal and the pastis for 8RMB is enough reason to go there again.

This is my favorite french restaurant in Beijing! The staff is really friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere is not as uptight as Brasserie Flo, it's way more laidback and friendly. I'm from the south of France, and honestly, their food/price is really close to what you can expect in mid-range restaurant there (I especially recommend the Salade de chèvre chaud!) It might seem a bit expensive to some but some ingredients are really hard to find in Beijing (trust me, I've tried!). And compared to some other french restaurants here, it's food you can actually eat and not just look at. You can be sure to leave with your stomach full! Moreover, there's a large choice of vegetarian dishes, all of them delicious! I go there every time I miss my hometown food and I'm always delighted. (And I haven't been paid by the boss to write this review! :-))

So smoky place and prices high for the quality The first "Cafe de la Poste" had hit the scene with the right mixture of good food for affordable price, but there was already a problem with small and smoky environment. The new "Cafe de la Poste" got food portions smaller and the place remain still very smoky (despite better than the first). It's a pity the owners are smoking themselves in the restaurant. For the current conditions, I'd rather spend a bit more and have a proper meal and nice settings in Flo.
