Run by two Bretons, this French answer to the city's jianbing stalls makes both savory and sweet crepes, served at a few sidewalk tables in front of Nali studios. The Riviera and Bretonne crepes make great lunches, and for dessert we recommend the banana-chocolate crepe, smothered in homemade chocolate.
With all the jianbing stalls in the city, it was only a matter of time before someone opened the French equivalent. Run by two Bretons, Crêpanini offers a mix of savory and sweet. The Riviera crêpe (¥27) was a delicious mixture of mozzarella, tomato and basil, while the Bretonne crepe (¥30) provided hearty bites of ham, emmenthal, tomato, onion and mushroom. To drink, we had their mango, pineapple and peach smoothie (¥28), which fell just short of those next door at Eden Juice Bar. Later, we decided to treat ourselves to a delicious helping of their chocolate waffle (¥20) with vanilla ice cream (¥6) and the banana-chocolate crepe (¥23) with flambé (¥8). Though both desserts satisfied, the crepe won out with its heavy smothering of homemade chocolate. One recommendation though: skip the flambé. The burned Grand Marnier leaves a slightly bitter aftertaste that doesn’t quite go with the chocolate and banana flavors.
