This upscale French brasserie and restaurant boasts art nouveau design and efficient waiters with bow ties and tailcoats. You'll feel you've been transported to a Parisian bistro. The food is excellent in taste and presentation, with decent portions for surprisingly reasonable prices.
This is the second outlet in Beijing for the upscale French brand. Unlike the Chongwenmen branch, this one is lighter and more modern in keeping with the groups new direction. Currently only the downstairs brasserie is operational, with a large upstairs fine dining area due to open officially in October. Also the credit card machine is not yet functioning.
As you would expect from Pierre Cardin, the decor and table ware are carefully thought out and give a warm art nouveau feeling. Alas, the only thing missing was music, which apparently is currently en route through Beijing customs.
Food is fabulous, beautifully presented and perfectly cooked. The 3 course set for RMB155 (inc a drink) is excellent value as portions are not skimped.
Service is prompt and very efficient and the wait staff are beautifully attired in bow ties and tail coats.
A rather lovely place to enjoy a quality meal.
Parisian Dreams
Beijing old-timers will know Maxim’s de Paris as one of the first French restaurants to make its debut here when the Chongwen branch of the franchise was established in 1983. The new Maxim’s in Solana upholds its reputation for superb service and authentic French cuisine. Despite a classy interior, this shopping mall location makes the bistro feel a little more like Disneyland than Paris. Upon being seated, we ordered an apple beer and a Grimbergen Blond (both ¥50) to enjoy while pondering the menu. Both brews were served in their brewery’s glass and poured perfectly. To start, the soupe a l’oignon gratinee (¥55) and the croque monsieur (¥38) were well-executed examples of the classic French dishes. For the main course, my wild sea bass with fine herbs (¥78) was tasty but unremarkable, while my companion’s duck with turnips (¥85) was slightly lukewarm. For dessert, the pear choux farcie (¥43) was beautifully presented, but the showstopper of the meal was undoubtedly the crepes chocolate (¥48), with a mouthwatering chocolate mousse perfectly complemented by an orange sauce.
