This expansive German restaurant excels in authentic sausages and in-house brewed beer. Other dishes are a little less authentic, but it's still a solid option for the city's international community.
Super Sausage Fest
This expansive new German restaurant excels in sausages and beer. While not all dishes are completely authentic, and portions are smaller than at Schiller’s, Hopfenstube is a decent option for the city’s international community.
While the lack of potato salad on the tri-lingual menu is upsetting, the gartensalat (¥45) is a delicious fresh mixture of cabbage, Emmental, smoked ham and eggs. The spaetzle, which comes free with an order of a main dish, is also good, but missing the traditional creamy mushroom sauce. The Nuernberger sausage (¥76) and the pork sausage (¥68) are both top notch and authentic, although the accompanying mashed potatoes and sauerkraut taste more instant than homemade.
The beer cocktails are definitely worth a try. The beer punch (¥38) is an interesting combination of various beers, resulting in a very unique flavor. If that doesn’t float your boat, go for the Radler (¥38).
First-time visitors should note that the portions here are not German style. Our apfelstrudel with vanilla ice cream, for example, was gone within seconds and hardly worth ¥38 price tag. However, if sausages are what you’re after, Hopfenstube is a must-try.
