Near to the German Embassy, this traditional Bavarian brewery chain had to get it right, lest they face an unruly Beijing German populace. Get it right they did, offering up hearty and tasty German fare in an inviting, wood-paneled setting. Wash down the sausage sampler platter with thirst-quenching homebrewed beer–now if only the staff wore lederhosen.

I had such a good experience at Paulander in Shanghai I had to check out the one in Beijing. The one in Shanghai is in a beautiful old manor. This one is in a mall next to a BMW shop.
I decided not to eat or drink there.
After haggling with Chinese vendors over 20 yuan, it just didn't feel right to pay exorbident prices just because it's owned by Germans. You can feed a family of four at a regular Beijing establishment for the same price one person pays here. Plus, there is no real beer selection. They are charging the same prices you'd expect to pay in California or Germany yet they're overhead rate is Chinese. If you're working for a multinational corporation in Beijing with a nice expat package, I'm sure it's fine. Instead, I found an excellent Korean Chinese place nearby... perhaps a more meaningful cultural experience for a Westerner like me. -

Beer price and taste is same thru out the world...maybe its a chain brand. Considered expensive if you are used to the low price of local beer. Service is not fantastic.Maybe its hard for you to gauge as it is a restaurant cum bar.Guess they are also confuse on how to standardise their service style. Food is so-so. The band is horrible : (
