    City Weekend Says

This beautifully decorated restaurant specializes in Qing dynasty, imperial-style hot pot, cooked in individual-sized copper cauldrons. The free-range, Inner Mongolian lamb and other ingredients are fresh and tasty, and the service here is absolutely superb.

    Regal Hot Pot

We were attracted to Man Fu Lou’s grand façade when we passed by it on a bicycle ride once, but what’s inside is even more impressive. The décor is stately Qing dynasty red and gold, and even the chinaware is decorated in ancient imperial colors. The traditional Beijing-style hot pot, which comes in individual-sized copper pots, is delicious. Add in the “cucumber-style” mutton (¥46.8/200g). It’s supposedly free range and fed on Chinese medicinal herbs in Inner Mongolia. The texture and taste are both excellent. The enoki mushrooms (¥16) are also fantastic, and other add-ins, like noodles (¥8), tofu (¥8-9) and veggies (¥12-15) are fresh and tasty. Service is also superb—attentive and wonderfully considerate without being at all overbearing.
