Featuring a 17th century setting, Chinese opera singers and a quick-change mask performer, this is not your average restaurant. While the food is nothing to make a special trip for, the gorgeous Qing dynasty decor, great service (in costume, too) and entertaining performers make Garden of the King a good choice for impressing out-of-towners.

This restaurant with its dining rooms surrounding a courtyard filled with flowers, rocks, ponds and fountains is said to have been constructed in the 17th century. The staff, particularly the women in their Qing Dynasty dress, look spectacular. The entertainment is a mixture of Chinese Opera and a quick change mask artist who is reputedly the best in China. The food is an interesting selection Imperial style cooking with dishes represented from many areas of China. The service is also excellent, however it is the ambiance, dramatic Qing feel and beautiful surroundings that make this a truly memorable experience. This is a great place to take your out of town guests if you want to impress. Unfortunately I did not take my camera, I will next time and make sure you take yours when you go. A dramatic, impressive and pleasing experience.
