Open kitchen cooking brings a crisp, modern sensibility to Chinese dining at this classy restaurant. Much beloved by the monied crowd, Made in China features classic specialties from northern China, including a delicious "beggar's chicken." Fans claim this place is one of Beijing's best for Peking duck, made even tastier by a non-smoking section.

One of the few places you need to book! Both the Beggar's Chicken and the Beijing Duck are excellent. Really like the layout that lets you watch the chefs at work. Well worth a visit.

This interesting restaurant seats its patrons amongst an array of food preparation and cooking stations, which for me adds to the dining experience. On the three occasions I have dined there the place full and bustling with activity. The service is attentive and professional without being intrusive.

On this occasion we started boiled minced pork, Beijing cabbage and yellow chive dumplings (RMB 48) and fried prawn, pork and mushroom dumplings (RMB 48). The boiled dumpling left me cold however the fried variety where delicious. We then had a Beijing cabbage and beancurd soup (RMB 68) and braised pork meatballs with preserved vegetables and tofu (RMB 78), both of which were nice. To finish we had stir-fried beef tenderloin in green chilli and ginger (RMB 98), lovely and crispy Mandarin fish with sweet and sour sauce (RMB 178) which was superb.

Oh yes and even the bland boiled dumplings tasted better on a revisit when doused in chilli or XO sauce or if you like really hot you can try them with the clear mustard oil. This restaurant is a great dining experience. Wines are a little expensive (Brown Bro’s Chardonnay RMB 400) however I guess this is not an outrageous price for a five star restaurant in a renowned hotel.

After dinner if you don’t mind cigar smoke you should have a coffee and grappa and listen to the wonderful female Chinese quartet next door at the Red Moon Bar.

Nice comfy restaurant with and open kitchen, where u can see your duck being roasted. The service was efficient and attentive, but not too friendly. The prices for this upscale dining experience is very fair. The duck was excellent, but you really should ask for the goose liver (i think it wasnt on the menu) SUPERB! It was perfectly done, a little crispy outside and soft and tasty inside, yummy.... The moutai cocktails are worth a try too.
