    City Weekend Says

This Indian eatery has made a name for itself in Beijing, serving up a menu of authentic flavors in a colorful, Bollywood-themed décor at modest prices. The massive menu is filled with delectable treats, like the addictive lamb and spinach curry and tasty stuffed naans.

Ganges, consistently voted Beijing’s Best Indian restaurant, is now serving delicious, authentic Indian food in Dongzhimen.

Our Dongzhimen branch is stylishly outfitted with comfortable seating and booths, and we serve the full variety of Indian food, including the best out of southern India and Mumbai as well as delicious Indian desserts.

On weekdays we offer a lunch buffet – a great way to sample some of the most-requested dishes on our menu at an extremely low cost.

If you can’t make it to the restaurant, we’re happy to deliver – all day, during business hours, every day of the week. Call 6417-0900!

Tired of eating pizzas, or the same old dishes from the same old Dongzhimen restaurants?

Find us at 28 Dongzhimen Wai Dajie, opposite the Canadian Embassy, not too far from the Australian Embassy, and right upstairs of Paddy O’Shea’s Irish Pub. Or, call us on 6417-0900, and we’ll send the food to you.

All India, one restaurant – from the banquet table to the city streets; from the mountains to the coast; north, south, east, west … when it comes to the vast regional variety of Indian food, Ganges has it all covered.

(As well as sit-down meals and delivery from the restaurant, we offer a special range of Indian-style pub snacks to customers of Paddy O’Shea’s Irish Pub, just downstairs – ask to see the menu!)

    Consistent addition

With so many branches, it’s easy to think you’ve seen and tasted all that Ganges has to offer. But a visit to the new Dongzhimen branch stood out as one of our best Ganges experiences ever. The restaurant not only delivers consistency, but is clearly still making a real effort, even after so many years in business. The menu is immense, so you can always try something new. We were impressed by the saffron rice (¥25), recommended as the chef’s specialty. It’s made with cardamom and cinnamon, and the seasoning is wonderful. The tomato-y lamb rogan josh (¥58) at first seems milder than at other Indian restaurants, but actually delivers a subtle, heavy, long-lasting spice. A Ganges favorite, the chicken tikka masala (¥48) is pleasantly spicy, with tender, well-cooked meat. For a vegetarian dish, we really enjoyed the yellow dal fry tadka (¥42), a light lentil stew. The vegetable raita (¥15) is more liquid than at other Indian restaurants, but the slightly spicy flavor is very good. The décor is an improvement over Kamat’s, the previous restaurant to fill the space. The lighting is dimmer, and the color scheme is Ganges’ signature turquoise and purple. Service is also very good, with friendly, helpful, English-speaking staff.
