This Indian eatery has made a name for itself in Beijing, serving up an authentic menu of authentic flavors in a colorful, Bollywood-themed décor and all at low prices. The massive menu is filled with delectable treats, like the addictive lamb and spinach curry and tasty stuffed naans.

Already popular with the liuxuesheng crowd in Wudaokou, the owners have made a wise decision opening their second venture in the heart of the CBD. Although located in the basement of a shopping mall, the restaurant does fairly well to displace itself from its sterile setting. The over-stuffed furniture, garish Bollywood paraphernalia and music videos do much to endow the place with a sense of both ridiculousness and homeliness. The menu is chock-a-block with all the Indian standards one would expect and require. The vegetable samosa (¥23) is crisp with just the right amount of kick. The palak paneer (¥44), as the menu rightly points out, is an “all time favorite” and it does not disappoint. The lamb shahi korma (¥48) was tender but only mildly spicy to our chagrin. The dum aloo kashmiri (¥44), or potato stuffed with minced vegetable cooked in a sweet curry, was a fine end as it did not skimp on the spice. All was complemented perfectly by plump butter naan (¥12) and Kingfisher beer (¥22) that extinguished the fires nicely. It may be in a mall, but this restaurant is in a league of its own. -CR

Try for high quality and reasonable prices great indian food We want there to check the quality as in Guomao we wanted best quality ..and were stunning surprised that the food -be it the butter chicken or the palak paneer (paneer was so fresh) was delicious and exactly the same as in delhi !! We tried a mumbai variety dishes and were surprised at the variety of dishes ..i think is the largest variety of dishes and snacks in beijing (compared with some old stalwart restaurants) ! The ambience is also good for a quite date or they have a vip kind of room where actually a group of 8 people where we enjoyed our party.(it was a stag party which we normally have) Check out the cocktails - Whisky based Godfather or Singapore Sling ..the bar tender looks highly experienced as the quality of the cocktails were so good as good as any upscale bar in beijing! We enjoyed specially the paneer koliwada (recommended by the manager sudhakar) and the mutton soup was delicious too. My favourite muttton biryani too was great ! All in all NEW RESTAURANT which gives great food, good ambience prices just okay not too expensive ! I could not find anything wrong so oops -nothing negative !!

Having eaten northern Indian cuisine in half a dozen countries (India included) I find Ganges a little disappointing. We mainly go to this restaurant as my wife likes the lamb biryani and we normally take home a second serving. Last night was no exception. The tandoori chicken (my favorite) was unfortunately dry and under spiced. We also had aloo gobi which was ok, however, the particular mutton curry we ordered (the name escapes me), and although rated with one chili, tasted more like a not so nice lamb stew than an Indian dish. The yellow dahl was just ok also (too much yellow not enough dahl) and very bland. The big letdown for me is the naan which was more like an oily crisp-bread than than a 'real' naan.

Service in this restaurant always seems to be a little disorganized and frantic however they do try hard. The place is popular and I guess that says a lot.

While this is not the best Indian cuisine available in town, it is still pretty fine and fantastic value for money.

The decor is very cool, especially with all the Bollywood stars plastered on the walls.

Worth a visit.

This was always my choice for Indian food in Beijing, but after a visit last weekend I think it's time to find somewhere new. The quality of the food was not as good as it used to me, the portions of naan seem smaller, and the service wasn't very good either. There seem to be hardly any Indians working here anymore, which is problematic, especially in the kitchen (we could only spot one Indian chef). Perhaps this is why the rice came 10 minutes after the curries -- a very common problem in China but not expected from an Indian restaurant.

The starter Tandoori Chicken was excellent , tender meat, rightly barbequed-in terms of spices and juicy. We thoroughly enjoyed with the edinger beer . My lamb rojanjosh-the lamb was tender -it was a pleasant surpirse and the curry was so perfectly-done , right spicy and bodied so well . This lamb curry with the indian soft chappati and then with plan basmatic rice was the real treat. I was so hungry as throught the day we did not had any food . The dessert gajjar halwa was wonderful too . A lady manger in late thirties was cheerfully talking to us in between to check if everything is okay and the hospitality and professional service was good i had to part of a handsome tip for the wonderful evening.. Fantastic work the indian chefs-and the staff.I made it a special point to all the 5 chefs and shook hands as i was travelling for over 5 days and did not had a chance to eat indian dinner .Travelling to hubei and changsha and was longing for real indian food and my chinese friend brought me here saying this is the best restaurant in beijing and i beleived him . i will be visiting every evening for the next 3 days i am in beijing and will catch up with the missed while i was in changhsa and hebei.

Good Indian cuisine, great value for money. The overloaded pomp plush interior is is very nice and creates a special warm atmosphere.
The service seems a little bit chaotic, every time a staff member comes to the table it is a different one.

Ganges and Indian Kitchen should get together, the one for improving the service and the food a little bit and the other to improve its style.
