City Weekend Says

This authentic Indian/Pakistani restaurant serves a delicious, flaky Lahori fried fish and a seriously creamy palak paneer. What truly stands out, though, is the friendly waitstaff who go the extra mile to cultivate a loyal customer base.

Spice it Up

Recently opened in Nali Studio, Mughal's is a welcome addition to a previously curry-free section of Sanlitun. Located on the fourth floor, the interior is cozy if perhaps a bit bright, and uses mirrors and a strong yellow palette to hint at South Asia. We started our meal with vegetable samosas (RMB16); bite-sized and savory, they whetted our appetite for dishes to come. We tested a tried and true Indian favorite – the chicken tikka masala (RMB48), which was spicy without being overpoweringly so, and the chicken was surprisingly juicy. The palak paneer (RMB48) was a smooth combination of spinach and ricotta that we couldn't help but soak up with our garlic nan (RMB12). The one major miss of the night was a mint lemonade (RMB18) that was more toothpaste than a refreshing drink. A post-dinner complimentary custard left us with subtle flavors of pineapple and vanilla. Mughal's can tone down the spice for "Beijing preferences", but we say if you can't stand the heat, you shouldn't go to an Indian restaurant.
