Under new management, renamed Flensburger Brauhaus.

With a relaxing, clean environment and a solid medley of Italian and American cuisine, this restaurant provides a pleasant oasis in the CBD, with very good pizzas. For dessert, don’t miss the signature avocado yogurt mousse. A diverse and very reasonably priced wine list is an added bonus.

Turn the Corner


Briefly opened half a year ago but closed due to a burst water pipe, Cornerstone is once again in business and stands to do well. The CBD restaurant is definitely on the right track, with a great environment, a solid medley of Western cuisine and good service. We’d definitely go back, especially to try the extremely attractive Saturday brunch menu (¥138 and ¥168 for two- and three-courses plus a cocktail).


The fairly large space is perfectly lit and very clean, with extremely comfortable chairs, good music at just the right volume and a small but pleasant al fresco area. Our server was incredibly polite and conscientious, even asking if the wine was cold enough before pouring (it was).


The menu is a mix of Western food, with an emphasis on pastas, pizzas and other Italian-inspired fare. The chilled beef carpaccio (¥49) is pretty good, but a little over salted. It’s served on a large bed of very fresh, high quality rocket, with parmesan shavings. The pizzas are large, and the crusts are nicely textured, with a satisfying crunch. Our parma ham and baby arugula pie (¥79) was light on ingredients, but we loved the drizzle of balsamic vinegar on top. In terms of quality, it’s on par with Gung Ho. The spaghetti with chunky Bolognaise sauce (¥49) comes wrapped in parchment paper, which is fun. The pasta is very simple, but the large meatballs, made with raisins and pine nuts, are great. For dessert, don’t miss the signature avocado yogurt mousse (¥39). The thick, creamy treat is made with bananas and topped with fresh strawberries.


The wine list is good, with bottles ranging ¥160-398 and glasses ¥43-63. There’s nothing fancy on the list, but the selection adequate, and the prices are very fair.
