This chic and trendy hangout is a great spot for an upscale Western meal in the Gulou area. Try the healthy arugula salad with crab meat or the addictive linguini with mixed spicy seafood. The portions are fairly large and prices reasonable. There's also a rooftop terrace that boasts a gorgeous view of the drum tower.

I went here last week and was really surprised by how good the food was. The arugula salad with crab and orange was tangy, delicious and healthy. I really liked the lamb ribs, although the portion was so big I could only eat a little more than half -- what a great deal! The panna cotta was a little jello-like and the weakest dish we had, but the "chocolate soup" with pistachio ice cream was great. With a comfortable and chilled out yet still chic interior and a rooftop terrace with a view of the drum tower, this is a great place for a date or a relaxed meal with friends.

A wonderful beijing gem. This little italian restaurant serves some of the better italian dishes i've had. And with the new menu, it just got even better. The prices are more than reasonable topped off with great service and ambiance.

What a joke! I waited an hour and a half for 6 raviolis! I've never been more disappointed with any restaurant in Beijing.

The brunch didn't impress me at all: poor service and very average food.
The only positive note goes to their interior design.

I visited Luce on a recommendation from a friend. What a great find! Located 350m south of GuLou bridge, Luce has a terra cotta-colored exterior and a couple of umbrella-ed tables in front. The interior is pretty basic, but has a quaint rooftop dining area. We ordered the house wine, which at ~120rmb was not a bad deal. A couple of us had salads, which were average, but tasty. The main course was my favorite. I ordered the rack of lamb, which included 5 lamb chops, a veggie ratatouille and a creamy mint sauce--all for 78rmb. The lamb chops were well cooked and a big enough order to split between two ladies. Some of my friends ordered the shitake and artichoke lasagna, which came in a dissapointingly small serving, but also was pretty delicious (50rmb). Another friend had the king prawns, which looked impressive, but I never had a chance to taste. The chocolate soup is a mis-characterization of a chocolate lava style cake served with pistachio ice cream--yummy. Overall, Luce is a great find and a solid 3.5 stars, especially for the price--I'll be back for a meal on the rooftop once the weather warms up!
