Saw it just yesterday passing by the east side of Kuntai Hotel at Chaoyangmen wai. The owner is a foreigner, I asked him and he told me they opened just a week ago or so.
They have two floors, the first one is a small coffee shop and the restaurant is on the second floor. It's still under some deco but anyway have wonderful latin food and nice cocktails. Stuff is very friendly, good latin music and videos, big choice of real Cuban cigars. They also are going to have Cigar parties with the cigar-making. Latin parties with live band and dance performances every weekend. Strongly recommended if you fond of Salsa, Latin music and South American cuisine and Cuban cigars.Contributed by nikita

This place kind of sucks. The food would be acceptable as "straight from mom's kitchen" if you were okay with the idea that your mom is not a very good cook.
I enjoyed my chicken, but it was the last thing I wanted after the first three orders I made were turned downed by the waiter. It was 7:30 and the place was empty, how are they out of shrimp?
Plan on bringing your own bottle of tobasco if you are interested in imbibing your food with any flavor.
How much longer will Beijing be an excuse for crappy western food? Kros nest seems to get it right... are the standards somehow lowered?

leonguillot. Hello. I'm the manager of Guantanamera and wanted to tell you some words. Thank you for your critics, we really appreciate it when our customers tell us their opinion. Anyway, this is the first negative critic we have. As everybody knows, Cuban food is not spicy food at all, so you don't have to bring your bottle of tabasco, or, if you like spicy food, you can ask for it right here. The fact is you just don't like Cuban food or you never tasted it before. We know that our food is really good because of the number of the customers we have almost every night. Besides we invite you to come and try our special dishes free anytime. Thank you again.

I had pretty high expectation when I visited Guantanamera and I was not disappointed! :) I got there early on Sat night as I didn't make a reservation... apparently they've got all of their tables reserved for the popular Latin Party but they're kind enough to arrange a table for me. Everyone in the restaurant are very friendly in a cowboy's hat, humming a little song and grooving in the beats. While waiting for my friend, the owner came up and shared with me the Cuban culture. Musicians who would communicate with you and get you in the Cuban Rumba mood. The waiters and waitresses are always around but never intruding; they'd get you new plates in the perfect timing. It was great! Be sure to make a reservation for a secured table!

Don't remember what day of the week we went to the place, but it was dead. We had couple of salads, soup, cocktails and a "chocolate" cake.
My ceasar salad was drown in way too salty dressing, the croutons were made some time ago and I could taste old, burned oil, salad leaves were faded and not even a bit crispy. And it came with chicken, which wasn't mentioned in the menu. And as I'm a vegetarian it was an unpleasant surprise.
My boyfriend had the most boring soup ever, it was some kind of cream soup, but it wasn't thick enough.
Cocktails were ordinary and in my opinion too strong.
And then, the worst of all was the "chocolate" cake. It costs around 30 kuai (and for this money you CAN get decent cakes in BJ for sure). The "cake" was nothing but burned cocoa mass, not even remotely resembling chocolate cake. It was reheated in microwave, obviously at the wrong temperature causing the scorching of the tiny pitiful black thingy. I wonder how smth like this can even be called a cake! And moreover, be sold for 30 kuai!!!
So, dear owners, stop writing panegyrics about your place, fire the cook, extend your menu and you'll finally have customers! Cause the place looks nice, even cosy.

Now I consider this restaurant my second home in Beijing. As I'm from Latin America, I just love the food there, it's what my mom usually cook when I'm back home. It's really homey, the atmosphere is so hot! People dancing, singing together with the band. Just love it! And recommend this place to all of my friends!

The brainchild of a former A-Che proprieter and, we kid you not, his salsa instructor, Guantanamera claims to have the only “true” Cuban menu in all of Beijing. With beer flowing plentifully and an outstanding menu of Havana-style cuisine, this restaurant is sure to provide a lot of hungry diners with a great after-hours dining experience. If you’re in the mood for Caribbean-style seafood they offer a great paella, Spanish seafood with rice, and starter shrimp croquettes, while carnivores should appreciate the Cuban-style roast pork, whose meat comes right off the bone. If you like to dance, show up for free salsa lessons every night after 9pm. If the dinner menu doesn’t interest you, Guantanamera also serves as a full bar/dance club. The well-priced beers and lively nighttime crowd make for an exciting after-work crowd. If you’re in the mood for a laid-back dinner with your special someone, you might want to give this place a miss, but if you’re willing to party the night away to sexy salsa beats and tear up the dance floor, this is definitely your spot. Be warned: you may wind up staying well past your 8pm dinner reservations! -John Joyce
