Description

Class is not just a restaurant but an establishment that aims to bring a higher standard of western living to Chinese households. Within this concept we provide different avenues for this including a fully functional cosmopolitan restaurant, hospitality classes including beverage, etiquette and cooking classes, a retail store where one can purchase all items from our restaurant and classes as well as other kitchen and bar items and also function and catering capabilities.

Additionally for our restaurant we aim to provide a high level of service at a very acceptable price range allowing people from all backgrounds to experience everything we have to offer at an affordable rate.

Tucked away in a far corner of the Beijing Global Trade Center, Class caters to a local crowd with fresh ingredients and solid renditions of contemporary dishes. The modern interior, dominated by simple furniture and offset by mirrors hanging from both the walls and ceilings, is reflective of the cuisine—creative without straying too far from the classics. Take, for instance, our starters from the ¥99 set lunch menu (¥78 for two courses): spiced Moroccan chickpea soup and Caesar salad with garlic anchovy dressing. The unconventional soup was zesty and chock-full of veggies with a North African flair. The Caesar salad was traditionally prepared with a generous serving of both dressing and parmesan cheese. Our main course of brown sugar and soya-glazed salmon with beurre blanc was exquisitely prepared, though the side of rice was dried-out. The baby back ribs with pommes frites were a delectable combination of crispy, savory potatoes and tangy, meaty ribs. Lastly, we enjoyed a flavorful, if slightly undercooked, espresso crème brulee and a mouth-watering gin and lime tart with vanilla ice cream. The manager, Adam, takes great pride in his coffee, which can be seen from the many gourmet coffee machines in the entryway (some on sale for an eye-popping ¥25,000), so the fantastic espresso (¥19) came as no surprise. With a healthy mix of carefully-sourced, precisely-executed menu offerings, Class is a hidden gem on the North Third Ring Road.

I am working close to Anzhenqiao, and since one of my friend recommended me Class by Stephanie, I have regularly been there for lunch and dinner.

The food is very good , the wine very affordable and the service very nice!

Definetely one of the best quality for price in the area. I would recommend everyone to go and try it !

Just to add that I had severe food poisoning, stomachache, been miserably sick and have been vomiting the past few days since dining at Class.

Class - Thankyou so much for the canape class that you held today.

We really enjoyed learning how to cook dishes from a true professional Laszlo. I think I can now show off my newly acquired skills this Xmas !

The only downfall is that you provided too much complimentary wine and my partner and me were a bit worse for ware when we got home !

I look forward to receiving the recipes and any new classes in the near future.

Will definately be back !

snickers - Thanks very much for your comments we have taken all of them into consideration and are already implementing measures to ensure similar circumstances do not happen to any future guests.

As you can see from our previous reviews we have had nothing but good comments so far about our service and menu. Thus we would appreciate you to come back so we can show you why we receive reviews such as this.

We always welcome constructive criticism.

It's "hidden" alright, but nowhere remotely close to being a "gem". Best French food? You seriously gotta be kidding me. It was so not worth the 50 kuai round trip there from Chaoyang.

Armed with previous good reviews, thought I'd give this one a try. What a disappointment.

They've got a dinner menu - RMB188 for 3 courses, RMB148 for 2, plus an a la carte menu. Went for the mussels in white wine, the brown sugar glazed salmon, beef bourgouignion and the expresso creme brulee (which is listed in the menu as blueberry creme brulee. The fuwuyuan will so kindly tell you that they didn't bother to change the menu to correct the error - says a lot about this place doesnt't it).

The mussels were rubbish, absolute rubbish. They were puny (some of the mussels were as small as a 1 mao coin), very unfresh (bordering on going bad), the mussel sauce was gunky and sourish, the accompanying bread was dry and old.

The salmon came with a side of white rice on a small bed of steamed spinach. The salmon was overcooked and portions were ordinary - definitely not large as per previous reviews. The so-called brown sugar glazing was not apparent and did nothing for the salmon.

The beef bourgouignion were chunks of stewed beef on a bed of rough tasteless mash. The beef was tough, the mash was rough and tasteless. It was like canteen food.

The admin review warned that the creme brulee was a tad undercooked, so I wasn't expecting perfection, but what came was mere mush under the glazed surface. To be fair, it was alright tastewise, but a flop texture-wise.

All in all, it definitely wasn't worth the price paid at all. The food was substandardly done, with no care for its quality at all. This is one kitchen which took no pride in their cuisine, you can taste in the food. If I wanted cheap and non-gourmet Chinese style western fare, I'd go for Pullman's steakhouse. At least they're cheap, satisfying and a better value for money, and they do try to serve the best food they can (within the limits of the prices they charge) without being so pretentious. And please, can't Class be more original than a lame copy of Lan's suspended mirrors? It is anything but classy.

Service at Class was annoying at best. The waitress brought our mains before clearing the appetizer, and had to squeeze our mains around the empty appetizer bowls. They also brought the dessert out before my companion had finished his mains. That was just plain rude.

Class is just a complete waste of time.

P/s: I had severe stomach ache and nausea the morning after. I believe it's caused by the bad mussels.

I did enjoy a lot this new place. The food is really good and surprising. I definitively love the salmon with a brown sugar sauce: frankly it is the best salmon I have ever had. The Caesar salad and the creme brulee were also exquisite. I also appreciated the staff, really friendly and doing a very good service. I do advice, it is worth the 10min ride from Chaoyang. Definitively I will go back.

I agree with the previous posters - this is a hidden gem - where else can you get such high quality food and wine at such a cheap price in Beijing? Their lunch menu is also a winner. I tried the chicken club - I defy you to finish it - a huge serve of chicken, avocado and bacon club sandwiches with a mountainous serve of either golden chips or crisp salad. And I agree with the critic re the coffee - best I've tasted in Beijing! The ginger is a winner too. Go there before it gets 'discovered' and they raise the prices!

definitely the best French food I have had in Beijing, under 200 rmb for a three course meal with very good wine. Was only just opened when I was there and the decor was not so relaxing as an a dinner venue, but the owner assured me they were in the process of making it more cosy. worth a return visit.

One of the best quality to price restaurant I've found so far. The 6 of us for 3 course dinner with 2 bottle of wine we spent around 200 each. Each dish has a little suprise, unlike any other restaurant, and the chef tells us the secret is in the sauce, which is quite ture. Not really far, 10 min from Dongzhimen, Lido, American Embassy.
