The food here remains true to the spirit of mother Russia and is superb. The service, alas, is gruesome. If you can overcome the surliness, do like the Russian expats do and enjoy succulent peppercorn beef tenderloin accompanied by lashings of mash, or try the salmon in white wine sauce for very reasonable prices. Perfect value for your ruble.

Did you say this place is Russian? Located so close to the Russian Embassy, but I think it's catered for Chinese more than Russian... We had the bacon steak, but the steak was not juicy at all :( I've tried Russian food before at another restaurant nearby, with better food and decor (and more Russian customers!) White Nights has got rooms to improve.

Fantastic borsch, and very good prices. White Nights is very popular with Chinese, Russians, and other expats. The service isn't perfect, but it's certainly not notably bad.

This place is like a lukewarm glass of water: nothing exciting but also nothing bad. It simply needs a vibe, features various styles and has lots of so so dishes and drinks (the juices are especially "regular") hidden between the few good ones. Simply nothing special. IMHO, if you feel like Russian food and atmosphere go to Traktirr.

Recommend the chicken Kiev: like all Russian food it is carb heavy, but yummy. They also have decent bottles of wine in the RMB150 range plus a very chill outdoor patio in a very leafy section of town. You won't feel like you're in downtown Beijing.
