City Weekend Review

A Real Feast

An all-day buffet restaurant often feels like an afterthought at a hotel, but Feast stands out as our first choice for F&B at the new Sheraton Dongcheng. Thanks to the hotel’s Japanese restaurant, Miyabi, there’s a good sashimi selection, sushi rolls that boast tastier rice than you’ll generally find at a buffet, and even a miso soup and oden station. The Italian cold cuts from Bene are available in all-you-can-eat quantities here, and we loved piling our plates with salami. Cantonese restaurant YUE contributes a nice mix of delicious steamed dim sum. There is also a good number of Southeast Asian dishes, including a very flavorful and spicy Singaporean chili crab, and blander Thai fried noodles to absorb the heat. Huge chunks of roast chicken and steak make up a small but well executed Western mains selection. The seafood—all cooked to order—includes lobsters and oysters. The salad bar here is one of the better ones in the city. The vegetables are very fresh, and the dressings are delicious. Big jars of capers, olives and sundried tomatoes make for exciting plates. The cheese selection is modest, with only six kinds available, but it’s nicely presented and pre-sliced so you won’t encounter the mess that buffet cheese stations often become. Desserts aren’t all incredible, but we loved the very fruity raspberry mousse cake and the ice cream selection—which apparently is all non-fat. Make sure you get a scoop of the mango passion fruit flavor. Ambiance is good, with lots of little private nooks and pleasant lighting. Service could be speedier, but it is some of the friendliest we’ve encountered at this type of restaurant. At lunch, you get a semi-buffet with an à la carte main for ¥168. The Sunday-Thursday dinner buffet is ¥228, and the deluxe weekend seafood buffet is ¥328. Prices subject to surcharge.
