Pinnacle of Dining
Perched atop the 66th floor of the Park Hyatt Beijing, China Grill gives an unparalleled view of Beijing’s cityscape and provides a menu that impresses even the most refined of palates.
We started with a glass of 2007 Pinot Noir, (¥140/glass) and appetizers. Blue crab cakes (¥120) were marked by a crisp outer layer that crunched with every bite. The seafood platter (¥550) featured lobster, king crab legs, giant shrimp, scallops, mussels, clams and oysters, and was so fresh that we skipped the accompanying trio of sauces and instead savored each morsel au naturel.
While such an opening act can be hard to follow, the spicy scallops in XO sauce (¥230) rose to the challenge. The scallops were succulent with a spicy after taste. Next, our medium-rare Wagyu sirloin steak (¥480) was a little more charred than we would have liked but went remarkably with the red-wine gravy. Still, we recommend forgoing the selection of sauces and mustards since they can overwhelm the natural flavor of the meat.
Completing our meal was the dessert platter for two (¥150), starring a luscious chocolate lava cake with chocolate ice cream and raspberry sauce, fruit tart, crème brulee and raspberry pudding. The lava cake quickly stood out as the real favorite, earning a chorus of “wows” with each spoonful. All in all, it was one of the most impressive meals we've had in Beijing. With sophisticated ambience, stunning views and impeccable service, China Grill delivers the full five stars.
