    City Weekend Says

With its huge lawn area, private rooms equipped with pianos and chalkboards and planned art and music education courses, this Thai restaurant is the quintessential space for families to eat, drink and be merry. The food is of high quality for Beijing, with great yellow curry shrimp, roast beef satay skewers and Thai style fried noodles.

    Thyme Space Continuum

Bright colors are everywhere and art (on sale for reasonable prices) lines the walls at this modern, up-beat companion to Shunyi life. We’ve had our fair share of Thai food, so it takes something extra to impress us, but impressed we were. We started off with the “mixed snacks” appetizer platter (¥52), which was par for the course. The yellow curry shrimp (¥62) was thick with flavor and texture in a way not common to Beijing. Roast beef satay skewers (¥22) and the Thai style fried noodles (¥36) outdid their contemporaries, and we washed it all down with Tsingtao and Yanjing drafts (¥18). For the less adventurous, there is an extensive Western menu from which we tried the interesting Simeon bacon rolls (¥24). A real selling point is the huge lawn area outside as well as the private rooms for family gatherings with pianos and chalkboards to keep everyone entertained. There are even art and music education courses in the works, making this the quintessential space for families to eat, drink and be merry.
