This vegetarian restaurant is a hit among Beijing's expats who love to leaf through the photo album like menu. Nestled into a hutong and run by Buddhists, Still Thoughts is known for its realistic fake meat dishes, including their very popular "lamb" chuan'er.

This is my favorite vegetarian restaurant and I've been to quite a few here in Beijing. It is also the cheapest. Plus, they have a non-smoking area.

I love it because it's the same prices as a typical little chinese restaurant, not all expensive and "special". It's a normal place, not fancy, but the food is really good, and the selection is huge! Their menu is like looking through a photo album, it takes a while the first time or two, but it feels so good to see so many typical chinese dishes but know they're all vegetarian. The sweet & sour tofu was great. I also liked the mini-chuan'r's... made of some kind of grain blobs on little sticks, but a bit crispy and flavored like chuan'r. They have a fake fish dish (it looks like grey slices piled high) that is thankfully nothing like fish, but delicious! (I'd hate it if it really tasted like fish).

Now that I'm thinking about it I want to go... it's so affordable you can go anytime, it doesn't have to be "a treat", you know? :D
