Rather authentic Vietnamese cuisine with a tantalizing menu of noodle soups and snacks in a clean and modest setting. Try their special platter, which includes a delectable range of spring rolls, chicken wings, beef balls and savory chicken nuggets. Great service and a negligible wait time enhance the dining experience.

Description

Small two- storey restaurant serving decent Vietnamese food. It is freshly prepared, tasty and cheap.
Downstairs it looks like the average cheap Chinese noodle restaurant and is a bit uncomfortable, but upstairs it is nice, comfortable with cushy seating.

I am usually quite generous with my thoughts on food. I'm no expert, but i know good food when i have it.

Unfortunately Pho88 does not deserve its praise on many forums. My girlfriend and I have been craving some Pho for a number of days now, and we traveled over 45 minutes by subway, across town, from west to east, to try Pho88.

The first thing that Pho88 does is lie to me. The photos in the menus look great, however the food is vastly different as i'll explain. I ordered a large bowl of Rare Beef Noodles and a plate of Spring Rolls, something that should NOT be taken lightly at a Vietnamese restaurant.

The 'rare' beef noodles arrived and the first thing i noticed was that the beef was white -- completely cooked through. The noodles were OK, somewhat chewy, but softened QUICKLY within the 15 minutes of my finishing the bowl. The plate of goodies that came with the bowl contained basil, peppers, parsley, and sprouts. Usually it's only lime, sprouts, and basil, but i guess they had to compensate for lack of flavour. And what am i to do with only 3 TINY basil leaves for a LARGE bowl of soup which by the way was tasteless.

The spring rolls arrived soggy and sitting in a puddle of its grease. I'm no chef, but i'm pretty sure they did not let the spring rolls sit on a towel at all to soak up the excess when these were taken out of the wok. They were no where near as crispy as they should have been. When i held the spring roll up with my chopsticks they drooped, like a...well lets just say it was laughable. And the 'fish sauce' was masked with garlic and chili, that we couldn't even taste the tanginess of it anymore. 3 words to sum up: small, soggy, and limp.

Oh and where are the usual Brown and Red sauces that they serve at most Vietnamese restaurants? You know, the hoisin and the garlic chili sauce? These were nowhere in sight.

To top it off, we asked for 2 cups of water that never arrived. For 18 RMB a bowl, i could have saved 45 minutes of travel and walked down the street for a 8RMB bowl of Spicy Beef Noodles that's more than satisfying.

Rather authentic vietnamese cuisine with a tantalising menu of noodle soups and snacks in a little clean and modest setting. Not exactly great ambience for dining, but excellent service with negligible wait time.

The special platter (¥68) that comes with a delectable range of spring rolls (fried and steamed), chicken wings, beef balls and savory nugget-like chicken. Known for their beef noodles (¥18), the special chicken noodles (¥18) and satay noodles (¥18) are also definitely worth the try. The soup however, might leave you a little thirsty. To compensate, they have a decent list of fresh fruit/vegetable juices or you can simply end the meal with a thick cup of vietnamese drip coffee (hot or iced).

Finally, their delivery menu looks as good as the dine in. A refreshing alternative to oily chinese take-way dinners for those shackled to their office desks.
