Decked out with white tables and comfortable white chairs, this cozy two-story cafe is spacious yet intimate with warm lighting and little partitions in the dining area. Vietnamese staples are on the menu, but they serve pho differently here. You first get a boiling pot of broth before you throw in the ingredients to cook before ladling them into a separate bowl.
Pho-licious
This new eatery in the Sanlitun Village offers a modern take on Vietnamese classics. Warm lighting, leather armchairs and an eclectic mix of music makes dining here feel like an intimate dinner at a friend’s house. You’ll find a decent wine selection (by the bottle only), but their exotic martinis (¥49) are a must try. We went with a rambutan and a lemongrass. Our appetizers of spring rolls (¥38) and summer rolls (¥48) were passable. The duck salad was a perfectly balanced mix of crispy shrimp chips, fatty duck breast and tart pickled vegetables. Our beef pho (¥68) soup arrived in a pot over a burner, the broth more delicate than the in-your-face beefiness of Chinatown pho back home. We also had the bun cha (¥68) grilled pork which was moist, flavorful and well marinated. While the food doesn’t disappoint, Va Va Voom’s strength lies in its location and pleasant atmosphere.
