This popular café and wine bar from Shanghai offers an extensive and very affordable wine list, although by-the-glass options are limited. There's also a changing menu of salads, sandwiches and tapas. The lighting is pleasant, the music relaxed and the seating comfortable. Daily and weekly wine promotions are particularly appealing.
Enoterra Sanlitun Nali Patio is on 4th floor with Rooftop terrace. With bigger wine selection and new menu, Enoterra stays true to its goal of delivering best value for money wines in a relaxing atmosphere. Perfect for romantic evenings or a party gathering. 10/10 Night on Mondays, Ladies Night on Tuesdays, Live music on Wednesdays, Wine Fever on Thursdays, Saturday and Sunday Brunch and other special events happen here.
The Big Move
Second Bite Review, December 2010
Long one of the city’s favorite wine bars, Enoteca moved from The Place to Sanlitun’s Nali Patio this fall and changed its name to Enoterra. The new location, new management and a new menu on the horizon should significantly change Enoterra’s place in the city’s wining and dining scene.
The new space is bigger, and the layout is much better for accommodating large groups. The lighting is pleasant, the music relaxed and the seating comfortable. And we’re overjoyed that Enoterra finally has its own bathroom. The previous location was definitely a destination, but the more accessible Enoterra now faces serious competition. And while it is the area’s only dedicated wine bar, ASC’s Wine Gallery is on its way and there are several restaurants nearby with very strong wine lists. Promotions like the daily 4-8pm happy hour and free-flow bubbly ladies night on Tuesdays are good moves. To maintain Enoterra’s success, the new management will also need give the same attention to customer relations as the tremendously charismatic Tomaz Hladnik did—not an easy task.
The wine list is, as always, extensive and affordable, although a greater selection of wines by the glass would be advantageous. The menu on the whole is decent, although some of our favorite dishes have disappeared. The “vegetable crème brûlée” (¥38) is generously topped with cheese, but has an odd aftertaste. One standout is the marinated chicken skewers (¥59). Seasoned with lemongrass, ginger and coconut milk, the chicken is amazingly tender and pairs well with the whole-grain mustard on the side. Expect new menu items from a French culinary consultant in the next month.
