One of the city's classiest Yunnan restaurants, Middle 8th offers an elegant decor and excellent service yet keeps prices low. The restaurant serves many delicious mushroom dishes, as well as the highly recommended Bass with Lemon Chicken Soup and the Fried Boletus Edulis with Shrimp. Look out for celebrities.

Like the new location (looks more classy). Suggest you to make a reservation as it is always fully booked. Like the rice "wine" that is serve in a bamboo shape container, its practically sweet (cant even taste any alcohol/spirit in it). Warning, food can be quite spicy. Price is acceptable. Service is acceptable.

For me this fine restaurant is a must go! The stylish white interior and the comfy couches makes it a good place for a relaxed long dinner. It attracts a hip crowd and you better make a reservation if you don't want to wait.
The often slightly redefined Yunan food is consistently good and very nicely presented. I had not one disappointing dish there yet. My all time favorite so far is the red sweet and sour spicy chicken soup with plums, not sure of the name.
The price for the food and the nice dining experience is worth it. The service friendly, but always very busy so sometimes it can be a little hard to get someones attention.

There's also a Middle 8 restaurant in Zhongguancun by the Carrefour...a bit less crowded there and they offer a 20% discount for the first 5 tables to be seated every night.

great food! try the middle 8th mushrooms! VERY good!

From No Name to South Silk Road, Beijing is full of hip, colorful Yunnan restaurants. Middle 8th, however, is one of city’s classiest. The stark white walls punctuated with framed textiles, the elegant lighting and impeccable service all suggest a restaurant costing far more than Middle 8th. Entrees start at just RMB28, such as the Fried Mushrooms with Black Pepper Sauce, a delectable dish full of fungi so flavorful and juicy we first mistook them for stewed pork. Even the more extravagant dishes, such as Fried Morels with Wild Herbs, hardly break the bank at RMB118. We especially recommend the Bass with Lemon Chicken Soup (RMB68), a baked fish marinated in a tangy citrus sauce, and the Fried Boletus Edulis (porcini) with Shrimps (RMB42). Like all Yunnan restaurants, Middle 8th also offers a range of insects for dauntless diners. If you have the guts, try the Bamboo Worm and Yunnan Pea Shoots (RMB28).
