Expanded version of the venerable old sports pub, this G'n'D has the same food, specialty drinks and 24 hour sports bar vibe, but adds a whole bunch of new features like batting cages, basketball courts, and a golf simulator for total sports immersion. Other great additions include home brewed beer, three outdoor patios, BBQ deck and a kids play zone.

Description

The new, much bigger version of this venerable 24-hour sports pub conserves the same pub grub and drinks menu and televised sports but the Bennigan’s-like interior now houses in-house brewing facilities as well as batting cages, basketball courts, beach volleyball and a golf simulator, making for a total sports evening. Perfect for drunken baseball golf.

When the Goose and Duck migrated across Chaoyang Park, the owners promised that the new version would be the same pub, same people, same prices. The last two are true with matching cuisine (try the baked cod at RMB60), identical specialty drinks (Duckfart, RMB30) and the same convenient hours (24/7/365). The new pub, however, looks to be a very different animal. John Harkness and his wife and co-owner, Amy Zhang, took Beijing’s best sports bar and created one of the most ambitious saloons in the city. In its new manifestation, GnD2 has a cleaner, more corporate feel. But while the décor may make GnD2 seem more like your run-of-the-mill sports bar back home, unique additions tell a different story. Almost three times the size of the old location, Goose and Duck 2 features batting cages, basketball courts, beach volleyball and a golf simulator (all free with the purchase of a beer). Next month, the hefty drink menu will swell to include light and dark beers brewed on site (25RMB). Removed from the bustle of the west gate, the new location precludes Goose and Duck 2 from becoming just another stop in a night of bar hopping, but its unique offerings make a trip to the new watering hole an evening all by itself. -Jonny Haagen

Well I visited John two years ago and hey what's not to like? Great Band , Great Food and a great new place. Ok I liked the old place better like everybody else. I also got to visit the Great Wall Resort country club that they run.

I've just had 5 weeks holiday in Beijing & I had a great time there. Friendly atmosphere & buy 1 get 1 free beer 4 til 8pm. Lovely cheer leaders & free live music. I really think if you're going to walk into a bar & order 1 beer & 2 glass's anywhere in the world, then you're gona have problems. It's a down to Earth pub where you can let your hair down & enjoy yourself. If you're looking for a high class establishment, I'm sure there are so many 5star hotels in Beijing. Take lots of money with you & make sure the girl you're with is worth it.

G&D may be called a sports bar, but just having the gadgets (pool table and other stuff) and wide screen TV doesn't yet qualify for a sports bar if the waiting staff doesn't want to turn off their billionth version of the yournej to the west soap opera to bring on the paralympics... Another dissapointment is the fact that they not overcharge the customer if the just get a chance, but also use fake booze in their cocktails (the bottles are purchased at 7.5RMB so immagine what this does to your brain cells and your livers!)! Just a big dissapointment overall

The food looked fine at Goose and Duck, but that was from a distance. Our party stuck to the beer and the batting cage. It's an enjoyable environment if you go out with friends to have a drink and test your inebriated sporting abilities on the golf simulator, basketball hoop or dart board.

The prospect of slugging a few baseballs sounded very unique for Beijing, almost like a very small version of Dave & Busters that one could find back in the United States.

After ordering a beer, our party had the run of the joint. Foosball, shuffle board, darts. No one bothered us or haggled us for another beer. You don't go to GnD for the food or the service. You go in to show your date and friends how you stack up with a baseball bat in your hand.

The Goose and Duck is a sad, scruffy bar with bad service and poor food. add to that lousy sports coverage and u wonder why anyone goes there, and judging by last night, not many do. i went there to watch the NZ/OZ rugby. i rang first to check the game was on. i got there 20 minutes early and after being harangued by the staff to buy a drink before i had even got to the bar, i ordered a burger. i asked if it came with chips and was told 'no', i had to order chips?!! i did not do so. when the burger arrived it did in fact have a few chips with it. Cold chips! so we waited for the game to start whilst the staff searched for the right channel. in vain. By now the game had started and still no picture. The owner arrived and he tried to get the channel with the game on. He then announced that the channel was scrambled for some reason so we could not watch the game!! By now there were about 10 pissed off supporters looking at blanks screens. We all left. I had to leave my half eaten burger and beer (which i still had to pay for) and make a dash for Frank's place. i missed the first 25 minutes of the game. Frank's Place was packed but the service was excellent, as usual. It stands head and shoulders above any other sports bar. I only went to GnD because it was closer. Never again!

I walked in to the Goose and Duck on over the Spring Holidays to meet a couple of friends that invited my girlfriend and I to listen to some blues music.

I have never been more disappointed by service at any restaurant or bar anywhere in Beijing. On entering the bar, I am immediately asked if I wanted something to drink. At first I couldn’t decide whether service was prompt or whether I being milked for money. I did not think much of it, refuse politely, and started to walk through the crowd to find my friends. The waitress walked off with something of a disappointed look on her face. After finding my friends I stood next to my girlfriend and was again asked by another waitress if I wanted a drink. My girlfriend said no thank you, we had just had dinner, she has a small bladder, if you are not thirsty you just aren’t thirsty. The waitress look over at me her face cringed in disappointment, I bent over and politely asked for a Qingdao. This is where she flipped, glaring at the both of us saying “1 beer for 2 people, no good”. I asked her in Chinese if that was a problem. She said, “not good.” I told her if that it was going to be a problem for her then we would rather not be here. We left the venue.

This is not bad service, its bad management. Directives are not decided by the staff employed at bars and restos in Beijing. They are decided by the money mongers running them. Shame on you my friend. I have been a patron for the GND for about 8 years. I will be no more and hope this piece of news goes out to everyone else that considers holding events or going for a night out at your place.

You want honest and corteous WAITER and Owner? Don't expect it at this new branch.

We went there (8 of us) by an invitation of a friend. Considering its isolated location, man you expect something special in this place. Everything almost went well until we requested for our bill. The waiter came and the amount just blurted out of his mouth computing thru his teeth i guess - without giving us any breakdown of our bill. At first we didn't seem to mind it because we were still in the mood for sharing stories. But one of us bothered to request for a recomputation of the bill having doubts that it was impossible to reach that amount. So the confusion began. This WAITER kept giving us a runaround of what we ordered but not showing the true amount of the bill. We figured, HOW CAN WE UNDERSTAND THE PIECE OF PAPER WHERE YOU PLACE YOUR ORDER IF THE ONLY PERSON WHO CAN UNDERSTAND IT WAS THE WAITER? I guess TGI Friday's found a more efficient system. Until we got to the bottom of it, the WAITER tried to cheat us with our bill. So necessarily, we asked for the Manager, who turns out to be the Owner. We explained in detail, and very carefully how it all went - even pointing out that we are just concerned that one of their staff is fooling them. THE SAD STORY IS THAT THE OWNER TRIED TO COVER UP THE TERRIBLE OFFENSE THE WAITER DID TO US. WE RE-COMPUTED AND FOUND THE WAITER OVERCHARGING OUR FOOD BILL. BUT SORRY, THE OWNER FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. ACCORDING TO THE OWNER, IF YOU GOT YOUR MONEY BACK, THAT'S IT CASE IS CLOSED. You want the same thing happen to you? If you want to take the risk of spending time at this branch, make sure you ask for the breakdown of your bill. Who know's how long have they been doing this?
