Run by a charismatic local, this eponymous establishment cooks up decent burritos and mouth-watering guacamole. The drinks, from the fruit margaritas to the coffee, are well prepared. Whether going for a breakfast burrito and wi-fi in the morning or quesadillas and tequila shots at 2am, Luga's always satisfies.
I love Lugas! I've been trying all Mexican restaurants around, and Lugas is the best! The presentation is Tex-mex style but the flavor is just perfect! The tortillas are fantastic! Highly recommend: beef fajitas (tacos de carne), chicken quesadilla, and the nachos! The service is outstanding, always waiters around and food arrives fast! I love the glasses of their draft beer too. Thumbs up to Patrick! It's so nice to be welcomed with a smile and a good attitude, I wish I could see more of this in those wannabe high-end restaurants.
Lugas, I loved the new upstairs, looks great, and now the place actually has paper towels and a decent rest room. Prices acceptable. Been 15for qingdao. Nice for late night after drinking food and watching the street go by
Luga, the king of mediocrity got his start years back as a waiter and has worked his way up to be a major presence in Sanlitun. One has to give him credit for being a savvy operator. But back in the day when he first started, his places had a better cost / value ratio. Now it’s not unusual to spend as much at his places as one would in establishments that produce much better food. The oil that oozes out of his burrito or casa dia indicates the poor quality of his products. Pools of oil do not form on high quality cheese. Service is uninterested at best and dismissive at worst. Should one have a problem the phrase “mei ban fa” will surely be tendered to mollify the complaining client.
Luga could do better. So could you.
Good food, great quantity, cheap, drink are good but weak in alcohol.
Lugas has great food but the drinks are a bit weak and the service sub-par. On a Saturday night it is a great place to go mid bar hop, especially if you want a round of shots or outdoor seating.
I love this place. Nothing fancy but the booths are comfortable, the drinks are good, the staff is friendly and it's not too loud... It's my place to go!
nice bar, been there couple of times, enjoy a casual lunch/branch and enjoy the sun on the terrace or play pool game with friends, and people get wild at night, pretty home feeling bar.
its more like an american bar, massive food , drinks and pool game with space to dance. pretty nice place to start a night or people gathering together, cos there are so much stuff to do there.
Its quite a nice place. Though our server was quite a junior waitstaff and seemed new she was enthusiastic to serve us and got our drinks and burritos quickly. The sides were fresh and i liked them.
Nothing wrong with this place for a drink a snack . I didnt try big mexican to comment. But from the burritos it looked positive.
Service is arguably the most important aspect of a restaurant, but apparently whoever runs Lugas has never heard of that.
I went to Lugas today with a friend and twice we asked the waitress for things (In Chinese!) only to watch her mull about the restaurant like an idiot right afterward, making no attempt what so ever to give us what we asked for even after she'd repeated it back to us and seemed confident in her capabilities. Also, I order the lemongrass chicken and received a helping of some of the worst cuts of meat I've seen in a while. Mostly skin and fat! To add insult to injury, the waitress claimed the credit card reader was "broken" and that we had to go to the ATM down the street if we needed money. How often have we all heard that lame excuse to cut costs?
This wasn't the first time I've had terrible service there. Not just at Pho Pho, but at all Lugas restaurants. Probably the most frustrating is how the service staff will fight with you if you try to order from the Vietnamese floor while sitting on the Mexican floor. It's the same building!
I honestly don't know why I ever go back there. It's a terrible restaurant and will apparently never get any better.
"Luga's always satisfies"?? I had a 30 kuai gin and tonic that was worse than the 10 kuai you can get at any of the joints next door. Is food better? As a Mexican I'm always afraid to try stuff that seems far from authentic so I still haven't been brave enough to try it... my heart can't hold a lot of disappointment.
Love this place! One of my favorite hangout places in BJ. Definitely have the best nachos in BJ. Never had an issue with service; Harry and Suzie are the best!
Music is hit or miss and sometimes really crowded, but that's when I go downstairs. The downstairs is a great place to go with friends because it's much more chill than upstairs.
We've had so many issues with this place! We kept going back hoping it would improve because the margaritas are so great, but things just keep getting worse at Lugas unfortunately. Whether we are being asked to pay 500 RMB more than our bill says, being told off my the DJ, or waiting an hour for drinks, the experience is always the same - disappointing. Oh well...I guess the old saying rings true here " Fool me once, shame on you! Fool me twice ( or several times in our case), shame on ME!
Won't be back.
I always find myself wandering over here to buy a late night burrito. Always satisfied, but a word of advice...stick with the small.
Nothing wrong with this place in my opinion, never had problems like walkinginthecity experienced. Service was always quick and efficient, they even served us water.
Food is consistently good, especially the burritos. Drinks are cheap and decent. Especially in the summertime Luga's is a good place to start the night.
Gave this place another chance, but they still didn't improve.
Sat there for half an hour, no one served me, only saw two Chinese guys were making out at the toilet instead working.
People were hired to write good review to make this place famous or they are just lucky enough to see the good side of this restaurant?
Unbelievable!
Such a great place! Luga is the friendliest, most enthusiastic and hospitable owner, and the atmosphere of the place reflects this. A great band was playing covers when I was there last Friday night, and the place was alive with energetic and happy revellers! With food that is great and reasonably priced, Luga's is a sweet hangout spot!
this time, i tried their chili con carne, of course, with double thumb-up! the sour and spicy flavor combining the ground cheese stimulated my taste bud and made my every bite unforgetable.what i must say is the reasonable price at Rmb35 that let you go to enjoy even with shrunk pocket.
continuous two day's lunch at the charming place just as for their attractive mexican style delicacies.cozy brasserie is filled with intimacy between almost everything here and me.the staff is attentive ,actually, very affable to diners.simple decor including daubed wall,a few chairs and tables, various pendants weaved by straw and only one semi-booth.best quesadilla and burrito with generous portions i have had by far in town is provided here, coming again is an absolute worth!
IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD TO GIVE FREE WATER TO YOUR CUSTOMERS, YOU CAN'T AFFORD YOUR BUSINESS.
when you walk into a restaurant nowadays, you normally get a glass water / tea for FREE if you are going to spend money on food.
This place told me and my friend that they don't have free water for customers, I either pay 10 kuai for a bottle of water (which costs 2 kuai at a store) or I have to go outside to drink my own water. It was freezing cold, and it was nearly 1am, we got this crap from this famous place. Bollocks!
I am not saying bring your own drink or food and have it at the restaurant is right, if you want to avoid this, a glass of free water will help, especially when you can't afford to lose a customer, you surely can afford a free glass of water, as we all know a big bucket of water costs 10-15 kuai in beijing. I don't appreciate this boss' rule (I was told), I don't appreciate this lil waiter who doesn't know anything about customer service and told me they did the same to all the foreigners which neither of us is foreigner. Does this place think we are cheap because we can't afford a 10 kuai water? Or kind of force you to buy a drink when you don't want to have anything alcoholic?
Luga makes me think twice now because it can't offer me a glass of free water when I was waiting for my take away burrito, even though I always went to Luga every time I went to Sanlitun.
Also the waiter lied to us the difference between a small and a large burrito, they are the same to us.
Is this going to make you think of the way of running business? Making good food, earning money won't make you completely successful.
Luga's offers surprisingly great burritos. Actually, they have the best burritos i've tasted in Beijing. And i'm half mexican.
For whatever reason, a night of alcohol and Mexican cuisine are always an amazing combination. Luga's is definitely that place you hit up after stepping out from the club.
As luminouzity already pointed out in the previous post, Luga's can be hard to spot amongst the similar-sized bars and restaurants in the immediate area.
This dive has an excellent selection of burritos. Anyone who has ever enjoyed a burrito from Chipotle back in the United States — and I'm sure there are some reading this right now who take umbrage with the fact that Chipotle is owned by McDonalds — Luga's in Beijing is the closest thing you're going to get to that fully-packed, overstuffed, super-flavorful burrito.
never judge a book by it's cover. i've been passing by this place hundred times but i never think that this is a restaurant. it looks the same like the neighbors small bars.
but a friend took me there and i had one of the best burrito in town, i guess. i ordered the large burrito despite my friend's warning that the large burrito is massive. by the end of our meal, i couldn't get off my chair and keep holding my jeans' button, afraid that it will pop out. i was too full. but GOOD and SATISFYING full. i had to sit there for another 45 minutes until we finally ready to get off of our chairs and hit the bars.
my friend ordered guacamole and it tasted really good too. good price for good food. and yes, good portion too. will definitely come back.
Great nachos, great burritos, great burger with a slab of cheddar (though it's for some reason not on the menu). Much better margaritas than any other Mexican place in sanlitun.
GUACAMOLE, that's what they do right here. Luga prepares the guacamole right at your table, starting with half an avocado, allowing you to customize the garlic, tomato, and spice to your liking, then she mashes everything up for you. Great guac, great portion, and great price. If you're at ya xiu DVD shoppping stop in for a snack.
