OT Lounge is a refreshingly civilized place where grown-ups can go get a good drink, eat some good food and listen to some good live jazz in our dimly lit back room speakeasy or have a good conversation in our comfortable bar room. As of April, our patio is now open!
Happy Hour is daily from 5-9pm with RMB 25 cocktails or house wine by the glass and 2-for-1 beer.
Late Supper is daily from 10pm-1am where ordering food entitles you to one cocktail, house wine by the glass, or beer for an extra RMB 25.
We are a far cry from the outfit that Mr. Stone-Banks reviewed in the magazine and are here to win you over - so come by and tell us what you think, then tell a friend.
Complimentary Glass of Jacquart Brut ChampagneEvery Wednesday after 8pm, everyone chill out in our back lounge receives one complimentary glass of Jacquart Brut Champagne. Limited one per person per night until 25 Wednesdays from now.

greetings friends,
just wanted to drop a line and thank those who have come by to OT Lounge and offered us encouraging words and enthusiastic support - and a kind reminder to the rest of you who have not been by yet to check us out.
from what i have heard from the musicians and many of beijing's jazz fans, there is no other place in beijing that can match the quality of music and service at our little spot - the drinks are not bad either. i mean, we make sure you like it or the bartender remakes the damn thing.
but for some reason, people are just not showing up ... well, not as many as we'd like. (if you have answer, please ... let me buy you a drink or four)
so we need your help: please go to the OT Lounge group page or this event page and click on 'Invite People to Join' and help get folks to try us out. thus far, i have not met a single person who has been dissatisfied with our live music, drinks, food, or service (or you should let me know, please!).
with the missteps of Oriental Taipan Bar and the slew of bad reviews in the Beijing English-language rags this winter, it has been tough to gain traction and we really are counting on word of mouth and your feedback to do our thing better ... that is, serve you well-made drinks and food with warm and welcoming service to match the top quality live music.
our patio is opened now and we are serving several of our house cocktails, sangrias, and house-made orange wine by the pitcher. the daily happy hour is a good time to stop by and try us out, especially if you work in the jianguomen/ritan area - rmb 25 cocktails or glass of wine / 2-for-1 beer.
thanks ahead of time and see you at Diliana's gig this weekend.
eat and drink well, OT Lounge

The OT Lounge has really come together over the past few months, improving its decor, drink menu and service. The jazz lounge is elegant and plays host to some of the city's best jazz acts. They now even have a patio. If a bar has ever deserved a second chance, it's this one. It's definitely worth checking out.

Hi Friends, OT Lounge regrets to inform that much of our July 2007 live music line up has been changed due to an unanticipated glitch - NOTE: ALL DATES BELOW ARE CURRENT AND NEW. Jimmy Biala & The Beautiful Era featuring vocalist Miranda Lee will no longer be debuting at our pad this month. The good news? Due to popular demand, we're presenting live music THREE NIGHTS A WEEK STARTING JULY!
Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night in July at 10pm, OT Lounge presents the finest live jazz and world music in an intimate setting.
2 Sets starting at 10pm | Seating Limited to 45 - Reservation is Encouraged Thursday, July 3, 10, 17 Moreno Donadel Trio - OT Lounge Premier! Moreno has been a fixture in Beijing's jazz scene for 10 years and has been a teacher to many of the younger cats in town. His style spans the idioms from bebop a la Bud Powell to Afro-Cuban such as Chucho Valdes. We're crossing our fingers that with Jimmy Biala on percussion, we're going to hear Beijing's first Afro-Cuban jazz trio if they can find a decent bass player.
Friday, July 4, 25 Barry Brake Trio - OT Lounge Premier!
Hailing from San Antonio, Texas (USA), pianist/composer Brake just landed in the capital after celebrating over 15 years of music-making with his band Jazz Protagonists. The music is off-beat and harkens to Dave Brubeck, Oscar Peterson, and a lot that 60s West Coast sound.
Friday, July 11 Red Hand Jazz Quintet
Modern composition, creative improvisation, and solid group dynamics; Red Hand sets the tempo for Beijing's creative music scene, and at the clip they are developing it won't be long before they're doing the international festival circuit - so catch them if you can.
Saturday, July 5, 12 Liu Yue Trio Plays Standards Perhaps better known for his bass work in Cui Jian's band, Liu Yue is also a jazz guitarist who has gathered some of the best players in the Beijing scene to play jazz standards.
Friday, July 18 Xia Jia Trio - Original Compositions OT Lounge is very proud to be the ONLY venue in Beijing that will feature pianist/composer Xia Jia. Xia is perhaps better known as Cui Jian's keyboard player but since returning to China from his studies at the Eastman School of Music under Harold Danko, he has been instrumental in setting the bar for the city's jazz scene as the keys in Red Hand Jazz Band and the conductor of the Beijing City Jazz Orchestra. At OT Lounge, the Xia Jia Trio will perform original compositions and innovative arrangements of standards. Xia Jia, piano/composer; Da Zhong, bass; Xiao Doui, trap set
Thursday, July 24 Saxophone Colossus - The Music of Sonny Rollins Yet another tribute to a master (and we're thankful he is still alive and well today), tenor saxophonist Sonny Rollins pioneered the piano-less trio in the mid-50s, allowing him space and freedom to blow as he pleased. Paying tribute will be Nathaniel Gao, saxophone; Charlie Wang Chenhuai, double bass, and Jimmy Biala, trap set.
Saturday, July 19, 26 Nathaniel Gao Quartet Saxophonist Nathaniel Gao has been leading his quartet formations at OT Lounge since our inception. With respects to the masters, the repertoire, and with an eye on the now, Gao's set list is diverse and refreshing. Expect some standards, some Ornette Coleman, John Coltrane, some originals by himself and his Red Hand band mates.
HAPPY HOUR - DAILY 5p-8p Cocktails and Wine by the Glass are RMB 25 Beers are 2 for 1 - Hoegaarden & Stella Artois on Tap

I was impressed with this place. Even on a night that was crazy with bad weather the room was full of music lovers. The drinks were good and well mixed. I also liked our very sweet waitress! They need to do something about jabbering people though.
The main thing is the music. It's always entertaining and truly artistic. Not the same old stuff. Teh players are great and you feel like you're right there in the middle of it because of the way the room is laid out. I'm defininely going back.

Decor is nice and subtle, unlike a lot of bars in town that's going a bit over the top. I particularly like the ambiance at the back house with live jazz... it's not too big so you feel like it's a private performance. Pretty cozy. Fri/Sat cocktail deal is definitely a catch. Value for money with high-standard entertainment. Service is excellent!
