Chinese electronic music pioneer Neebing teamed up with sculptor Zhong Song for this designer club. Its wood interior layers like rice terraces creating the ultimate restaurant/club for the Beijing's art, design and music cliques. With delicious food, impeccable cocktails and awesome music, Song is the nexus of Beijing cool.

New bar in The Place that aims to bring architecture and design interests with that of music, food and drinks. Sòng was designed by Zhong Song, a contemporary Chinese designer who reportedly envisioned the “Sundial” in Pudong with Chen Yi Fei.
According to Song "From mid-week nu-jazz and live jamming sessions from our resident NIls Krogh, a DJ and talented musician in his own right, to blistering weekend excess!. We're proud to also announce for our opening month of December "Coldcut" the legendary pioneers of electronica with DJ and VJ show with MC's."

I visited Song last night as a guest of Neebing and Zhong Song who are currently fronting the project. It's ambitious, but not mammoth, the downfall of Arena which unsuccessfully banked on the prime CBD locale. Zhong designed the interior to riff off the terraced rice fields of southern China. At Song, the terraces become wooden ridges which at lower elevations become steps for the sitting crowd. The wood also adds up to rich acoustics, which is great because Neebing isn't planning frothing dance parties, but more cerebral electronic ululations. Hence the addition of Nils Krogh from Sweden as musical resident. He's an accomplished avant garde jazz musician who produces and can spin. Here that Beijing? He produces AND spins. It's indicative of the Song approach: music is art, not an excuse for flailing wildly and hitting on girls. Neebing sums it up best: "Song is stylish, not stupid."

went to song last saturday high expectation but low feedback. it has relaxing but hip design and layout which easily attract young and affluent. the music is alright not so impressive. it needs a little bit hightlight. the drinks sux! the waiter just couldnt deliver what we ordered even my friend spoke with him in Chinese. If i spend more than 60 but still cannot get a decent drink then thats a waste indeed. Song could be better.

Since we know Song is a place more than just a club, we went there to try the food. Quality is good but the portion could be bigger. Service is good. Volume of music is just right. Overall it's not a bad experience. Though I found it a little strange when they started to play cartoon up on the double screen, which did not really match with the music. Is it a new form of "art" or an intended theme on a quiet Monday night?

Lots of potential but could do better.
The wine selecton is not that great or extensive. The decor is unique and the wait staff were very friendly.
Not sure that the basement of the Place is the right location for this to work really.

Song bar is a club that cater to the upper class. With a staggering entrance fee of 80 (when I was there), I would expect everything and some extra.
Song do please my artistic needs in form of a rather interresting and cool layout. Apart from that though, 80 Quai is just way off.
The music is far better than most other places, but still in the commercial-spectrum. The clientel is almost exclusively foreign, which I understand due to the outrageous price.
If the price was between 30-50, I would love to go here from time to time, but its not worth double the cover of its competitors.
In total, a club with potencial, but which have priced itself out.

I love Song for its inspiring atmosphere and great concept. The interior is a class of its own and definitely a must see, when you are a bit into architecture, design.... Another thing about Song is the music, it is way better than most other places in Beijing. The drinks are good the service very friendly and attentive.

Absolutely fell in love with the wooden interior!
Lotsa space upstairs, with super comfy and clean sofas and huge "viewing window" to watch the band playing downstairs.
10 pts++ for the super friendly and billion-megawatts smiles from the waiting staff.
Band sounded promising at first, but started to get "predictable" soon after... band lead was chanting the same mantra over & over...
But nevertheless, had a fantastic time there!

been there 3 times. for the opening, for networking and for hanging out. drinks are good too. service wise, they are friendly but still there are rooms for improvement. i love the interior. really cool! 5 stars for it! but somehow from 3 times i've been there, i felt something is missing. there's nothing that can make me really want to get wild and partying. i think it's more suitable as a networking purpose than a party venue. or maybe is it because of the music? the opening was not WOW. the networking was calm. the hanging out, i only danced a bit. was a bit bored there so i headed to sanlitun after 90 mins there.

Sure the newest hip kid on the Beijing electronica block has a shopping mall (The Place) sitting on top of it, but Song won’t suffer commercial suffocation. Neebing, one of the founders of the Chinese techno scene, has tentacles spread throughout the global art-osphere. He wears designer glasses and used to play soccer with minimal tech superstar Namito. He knows what the newbie high roller class wants, and if the opening night featuring anti-mainstream avatar Coldcut is any indication, he’s out to give it exactly what it needs: taste. He likes to say Song is “stylish, not stupid.” The interior, designed by sculptor Zhong Song, is all wood and feels like a tree house for big kids. Acoustically, it’s like lounging inside a Bang and Olafsun speaker. During the day there’s simple bistro fare to pay the bills, at night expect a whole range of musical artisans to keep the place spinning. –Lee Mack
