With a stellar happy hour menu, numerous television screens and a spacious upstairs, this classic expat bar and grill is home-away-from-home for sports fans and those looking for reasonably priced bar fare. Open 24 hours, The Den is also the perfect spot for breakfast after late-night clubbing.

This place invariably seems to be busy, day or night, so they're obviously doing something right. Whether it's the half price pizza and most* drinks (foreign draught inc Guiness reduced price) happy hour until 10pm, the variety of sports shown on the multiple TV's, honest (read not fake) pour drinks, the friendly staff, comfort food on the menu, not-so comfy sofa's, good lighting, dodgy doormen, or home of the Danish and Scandinavian sports fan in Beijing I'm not sure.
Personally I like it for the buzz, discount drinks and the cheap and consistent simple meals like steak and ale pie with mash potato, or steak and chips.
Their upstairs used to be a great place to go after regular bar hours to meet people from 'across town' who would wait 'til 6am for the subway to re-open, unless you could persuade them somewhere more comfortable to wait! It changed from a 'disco' to a stark white-tiled bar some years ago, but that was a failure and short-lived. It is now a mere extension of downstairs with a good round bar and more TV screens.
It is a popular place for out of town business-men and as such there is a small collective of 'out of town buziness ladies' who stop by in between shifts during the dead of night.
Did I mention the staff, very friendly if you're happy to spend money. Like so many places, they don't appreciate people using it as a bus-stop. They always seem to have a smile for me.

The Den used to be a good place to go after partying, coz they are open 24h. But now, if you wanna eat something, you MUST order something to drink, so stupid. They shouldn't call theirselves as "Bar and Restaurant" then. They do charge for water and the drinks are quite expensive out of Happy hour time. They charge 20RMB for 1 coke can. And the service isn't good at all. So... it isn't a good place if you wanna only eat nor if u are looking for a peaceful and cheap place. Until they don't change this stupid rule, I won't go back there.

I found the food delicous, although I have to admit, I can't remember the last time I ate there sober. Staff has always been friendly to me, and although it is not cheap (and the drinks really aren't that good) as one of the few 24 hour places that offers both real food and drinks it's ok.

no free lemon water, arrogant staff, food below average

This is a great place to watch sporting events and the service is good. The downside is that I find the food is terrible, anything deep fried tastes like re-used fish oil. Even food that is not deep fried, is not that great. Both my wife and I were not impressed at all. The tap beer is reasonably priced, but tastes like the taps haven't been cleaned in years. A cold Tsingdao off the street for 2.5 rmb tastes much better then anything they offer on tap. Their imported beer is very good and reasonably priced. That's about it, I wish I could say something better. In my opinion it's not worth the trip with all the other choices of restaurants in Beijing.

This is one of my favourite place where you can watch some sports live action.
Food is available which is fine for appetite may not be great grub.
Also not to mention this place one can meet sportscrazy people and its good to talk to them.

It's not as an extensive beer list as I'd expected, but a full, raucous crowd seems to be always on hand for the sporting events. It's nice to see that even on two levels, a television is within view to catch what's happening during a game.

This place has been transformed over the last 6 months or so into quite a pleasant sports bar.
This is a great place to go to watch major sports events.
The regular drinks are very reasonable, especially during happy hour, and the food is far better than it used to be. The pizzas are well worth a try.

A busy and pleasant sports bar full of expats. Great place to watch the F1 GP or any other major sporting event. They have a lunch meal deal for RMB 40 including a choice of drinks. During happy hour a Kilkenny will only cost you RMB 30. Regular drinks prices are reasonable: Shooters RMB 30, Whiskies 25, a glass of local wine 30, juices 30, coffee 20-25 and a glass of port (nip) 25. Although I didn’t eat (will next time) however looking at the menu there is a wide range of meals that average RMB 35 and a pizza with cost you RMB 50. The décor is typical sports bar with football jerseys, sporting trophies adorning the walls and the obligatory big screen TV’s... and they tune into channels with English commentary.

Good sports bar.The place is clean , and I love clean places. The staff polite, and attentive. The Guinees beer was fresh and good. The pizza and fries came in time.It was nice and we went for the burger and some more food and more beer and just liked this place. Been here before but I guess they have changed quite a lot.
