The Red House > Wudaokou Description

Quality pizza, cheap beer and a homey atmosphere make this Italian-owned beer hall a good spot for whiling away evenings in the company of close friends. With its first branch in Wudaokou, The Red House attracts a good mix of students, teachers and local who imbibe to the jukebox’s tasteful mix of indie, trip-hop and electro.

Tucked away, above a row of shops and backing onto a police station. At first, it might look a little like Moe's Tavern, but there is far more to this place then it's initial simplistic charm. The roaring pizza oven fire, friendly staff, laid-back regulars and the 5 yuan draft beers are fast making this place the newest hip hangout in Haidian. Now relocated 2 minutes away from Wudaokou station, come here to escape the pretentiousness of Lush and the hideous music at Propoganda. They run regular club nights and poker tournaments, and a big party launched the 'maybe red car' series on Halloween. Strongly recommended for a fun night of drinking and mischief. To get here: Come out of Wudaokou station, head toward the U centre. Cross the road past the big cinema onto Wang Zhuang Lu. Above the row of clothes shops and up the stairs lies the red house...

Very nice bar with one of the cheapest price for Draft Beers in Beijing (5 kuai a pint - 20 k for free refill on fridays and saturdays). The pizza is not cheap but quite good.

The only thing is that it tends to be either crowded or kinda empty... Best is to arrive early on free refill day, get a table, and drink all night!

Good pizza, cheap beer and lots of events. For a small place, they hold the crowd well. Check out the couch surfing events for a nice social group on a lot of thursdays

City Weekend Review

This Old House

Red House’s brick walls, wooden furniture and long bar under a low ceiling give the impression that one has walked into Moe’s Tavern from The Simpsons. And on occasion, belchingly drunken expats can bring that vision to reality. The central tenets of The Red House—even before opening the new Wangzhuang Lu location—have always been quality pizzas and cheap beers served up in a homely atmosphere. It’s an ideal setup for whiling away evenings in the company of close friends. The staff is laid-back and well-trained by the Italian owner. You should expect to pay about ¥60 for a pizza, but the real steal here is the ¥5 draught beer. The jukebox pumps out a tasteful mix of indie, trip-hop and electro. Regulars include a mix of students, teachers and open-minded locals who put on bi-weekly poker tournaments and occasionally clear the tables to make room for a dance floor. Just hope that you don’t end up passed out on it at the end of particularly long night.
