Located above its sister Japanese whiskey bar Ichikura, this beguiling wine bar astounds with its minimalist décor and impressive list of imported wines and beers. Slow jazz and Latin grooves mesh with quiet conversations in Japanese, English and Chinese. Though the atmosphere and drinks list is upscale, Third Cellar keeps the prices reasonable.

The guy behind Ichikura does it again. Though a dark, cozy joint, this bar somehow makes me feel like I'm drinking in the Overlook Hotel. Kind of eerie with a distinctive retro-chic feel. Perfect date spot for a late night cocktail.

Black Magic
The mastermind behind trendy, Japanese whiskey bar Ichikura has bequeathed to Beijing another hidden gem. Located on the same, dark Chaoyang Theater alleyway as its sister, Third Cellar enchants with its mystery. Its minimalist décor is darkly lit but strikingly complemented by a number of low-hanging chandeliers. Targeting an international clientele, Third Cellar’s impressive wine collection starts at ¥95 for a bottle of Chilean chardonnay, while dozens of beers from across the globe, including rare Duvels, range from ¥35 to ¥55. On the cocktail menu, the “Samurai Rock” (¥45) is an especially delicious dose of sake with a pleasant kick of lime, just one in an impressive list of wine- and sake-based cocktails. Slow jazz and Latin grooves mesh with quiet conversations in Japanese, English and Chinese. This newcomer is the perfect place for a mellow and relaxing night with friends.
