This great live music venue in a siheyuan was started by some of the guys from local band Shazi. Expect cheap drinks, great atmosphere and plenty of people around to jam.
Smoothy SiheYuan in Hutong, where you can enjoy original good music, Folk, Jazz, Blues, Ethnic.

There's nothing "great" about this bar except the pretty courtyard facade the bar hides behind. Once you strip off the mask, you'll realize that the service is dire and the drinks overpriced. 90% of the mixed drinks are served in tiny glasses, bulked up with ice cubes. But the worst is the sound. If you're not one of the fortunate few to find a space in the room which houses the tiny stage, you may actually hear the band, but anywhere else in the bar, all you're going to get is a muffled sound that's drowned out by people's chatter.
Which brings me to the next point: the people who come here aren't as interested in music as they are in mingling. There's a serious lack of respect for the music here, both by the bar's layout and organization and by the people who come here. Jianghu is fine as a neighborhood hangout, but as an "underground music bar" the place is a joke. If you really must enjoy live music in a courtyard style setting, then I suggest go to Jiangjinjiu instead. There, the focus point is the stage and the music, and the staff are friendly and welcoming too.
An authentic music spot with a great vibe & solid people. Definitely worth the evening trip, but additionally before 7pm on the southern/foosball side they do really nice tea (especially the Pu'er)!
Hidden in a hutong off Nan Luo Gu Xiang, Jianghu fills a cozy siheyuan with an eclectic mix of domestic folk acts and international musicians. While you can find cheaper drinks around Gulou, patrons enjoy live music here most nights of the week for free—sometimes joining in themselves! Among the drink selection, the Gleckes beer on tap (Y25) commands respect. For something quieter, retreat to the southern wing for a chat or some foosball.
Very good Jazz music there every Thursday with Daniel and Nico, some of the best musicians in Beijing...for free !
Played there many times...just a great place to hang out and to listen to some of the experimental and folk music in Beijing.
Also many local Beijing underground music go there just to have fun...I recently saw there guitarist Laowu from Tang chao, Zhang Chu the legendary rock star from the 8o's...and others whose name i couldn't remember.
Great, great low key place.. one of my favorites. grat bohemian vibe. my band played there recently and we had a blast, before, during and after, chill spot.
