This mid-sized music venue on top of Tango is the envy of Beijing's live music scene, boasting one of the best sound systems and set ups in town (the venue can hold up to 1200 rowdy fans). The management isn't too hip on Western music, but they still manage to book in most of the biggest foreign acts coming through.

Beijing's been missing this kind of music venue. Big enough to book in guowai bands with a stellar sound system. Right now most of the acts seem to be death metal for some reason, but expect that to change over time

The best place to catch international artists passing through town, but in a more intimate setting.
Of course, you won't find your Jay Chou here, but it is the venue of choice for off-mainstream international artists; especially those making their first forays into China and this their inaugural concert as a 'test' for future tours.
I like catching local China groups who are on the cusp of making it big on the national scene; those emerging artists are in my opinion most exciting to watch.
Star Live is a good litmus test of what musical endeavors are moving on up in Beijing.
