Expect beautiful Chinese women? Well yes, we all expect beautiful Chinese women when we go clubbing, but even the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry, and sadly sometimes even the most hyped clubs can turn out to be nothing more than glorified sausage-fests.

Angel epitomizes everything that's awful about Chinese clubs: the same 10 tracks on repeat spun by three equally uninspired DJs who all agree that music is best enjoyed when cut out at regular intervals so that the crowd sing along ("Ooo weee, I like girls, I like girls, I like girls..."); booth after booth of chain-smoking gangster wannabe types who you'd rather not talk to, and who would obviously rather not talk to you either, unless of course you display interest in their women, in which case you had better be prepared to either run fast or start bargaining; a generally pervasive lack of class or rhythm by anybody on the dance floor; and last but not least, the anal probe at the door.

But wait, aren't these also the best qualities about Chinese clubs? What if clubgoers got some taste and learned to dance? Why, it would be like if people learned to drive properly or stop spitting on the sidewalk as you walk by. Sure, it might be pleasant for a while, but where's the fun in that? So while other clubs aim towards international standards of classiness, Angel stands firm and true, a monument to the sketchy clubbing days of yore. Three stars.
