With ‘70s-style eggshell chairs and disco lights, this Solana bar street pioneer offers a much chiller atmosphere than most of its competitors. HLG’s reasonably priced drinks are well mixed, and the service is attentive, but the real selling point is the retro-futurist décor and Friday’s live Filipino jazz band.
This Solana bar street pioneer has a relaxed atmosphere and live jazz. It's one of the cooler hangouts on the slowly developing strip.
An HLG Thang
Nestled in Solana’s trendy bar street, HLG offers a more laid-back option when compared to its contemporaries in the area. The décor is unabashedly inspired by the ‘70s with eggshell chairs, disco lights and poofy couches. Drinks range from ¥35 for bottles of Tsingtao and Bud to as much as ¥20,800 for the Remy Martin Louis XIII cognac. Their signature HLG mojito (¥50) comes in a variety of flavors—we loved the grapefruit mojito. The service is prompt without being overbearing. DJs mix techno and house nightly, except on Wednesdays and Fridays when there is a live Filipino jazz band. Tables seating six require a ¥500 minimum and take up most of the floor space. If you like hearing Skee Lo’s “I Wish I Was a Little Bit Taller” mixed with the The Breeder’s “Cannonball” at a joint with lavish decorations, then this is the bar for you. It’s definitely one of Solana Bar Street’s chiller hangouts.
