Launched by Acupuncture Records, this underground dance hall boasts two bars, sweet cocktails, cheap beers and one of the capital’s most spacious dance floors. Lantern also works as a lounge, keeping the music low before the masses flood in at midnight.

Description -
Owned and operated by China’s quintessential electronic music record label - Acupuncture Records - this dance club is located in Beijing's nightlife epicenter, Sanlitun. The basement venue is minimalist in design, with 2 bars offering signature cocktails and fair priced beers, lavish lounge space, plenty of dance floor, and is fully equipped with killer sound. The weekend nights feature the most original innovative house and techno Beijing has to offer including high caliber acts from all over the world; other nights switch through a range of different music styles including Electro, Retro Dance, Drum'n Bass and Dub. Lantern also acts as a core multi-media art center in the city, focused on enriching China’s electronic music culture; hosting a series of DJ and VJ workshops, open decks sessions for newbies, and record release parties.

Very good club for dancing for music for partying early or late. Spacious, two bars, plenty of seating, massive dance floor, beautiful people. The sound system needs an upgrade, hopefully sooner rather than later. Other than that, excellent addition to the scene. Kudos to the Acupuncture crew.

Had an amazing time at the opening. Quality underground techno club decorated like the inside of a Chinese lantern. The ginormous dance floor is hard to beat when there's a quality DJ on the decks.

Okay, here I am popping everyone self congratulatory bubble. Here's the deal 1. Good soundsystem but only in comparison to Vics or Mix. Still not warm enough for my tastes, and same problem of too much bass to compensate. If all is good, your ears don't have to ring when you leave the club. 2. Okay layout, but its minimal not like a warehouse rave or one of the hole in the ground Cologne clubs of the 90s and more like a lowly lit Ikea catalog. 3. Did we all forget that the clubbing experience is an experience and not just a place with an elevated DJ booth. Going down ugly office stairs at 3.3 to a mall worthy video arcade and glass doors reminds me more of getting my cellphone fixed than going out. It's a bit of the left of Zara down the elevator to the food court feel of Song. Once in, you realize that this club could be any club anywhere in the world located in your friendly neighborhood strip mall and is only special for it's existence in Beijing. Lets not pat ourselves on the back for rising to the level of world wide mediocrity. Lets look at other local fixtures around China like the Shelter in Shanghai or even YGYS in Beijing with it's history and Jack in the Box surprise from that little tiny door in the front. Definitely not a place to impress my friends from out of town if their from any major city not in China.
