As a recognized leader in international education, ISB offers nearly 1,900 students from over 50 countries exceptional resources in a state-of-the art facility. The School provides each student, each day, with a rigorous and exciting educational experience in what is an English-language day school. ISB provides education to the Lower Elementary School (PK 3-4 year olds) – grade 2, Upper Elementary School (grades 3-5), Middle School (grades 6-8), and High School (grades 9-12), with a principal for each division. The school year extends from August to mid-June. ISB has its roots as a diplomatic school, having been established in 1980 by the embassies of the United States, Canada, Britain, Australia, and New Zealand.

At the beginning of the 2006-2007 school year, enrollment was 1,865 (EC-3 – Grade 2: 293, Grades 3-5: 415, Grades 6-8: 529, and Grades 9-12: 628). Of the total, 790 were U.S. citizens and 1,075 were third-country nationals.

The School is located in the immediate vicinity of several residential villas in the Shunyi District. Highlights of the School facility are a 600-seat professional theater, a 6-lane competition swimming pool, a 400m running track, 3 gymnasiums, 2 libraries, 2 cafeterias, 12 science laboratories, and extensive outdoor sports grounds, and an outdoor learning environment. The school supports over 2,500 voice and data ports, 800 desktop computers, 400 laptops in mobile carts and 60 networked laser printers (10 of which are color) throughout the building. All computers have access to the internal network and the Internet.
