Come to this massive, open air market to bargain for everything from life-sized terracotta warriors, vintage photographs, Chinese style porcelain to calligraphy scrolls. Sure, you might not be buying authentic antiques but if you can't tell who else can?

This is not a bad place to browse for old books, ceramics, and other small items. Do not come here expecting to find really cool old furniture. They've got a few furniture shops but none of them sell truly second hand, rundown (in a good way) items that you see in cool Hutong cafes and such. Think more along the lines of the crappy Chinese "antique" furniture that came with your furnished apartment in Sanlitun.

really like this place! definitely a must for those antique lovers. not really antique, thats true, they are all new stuff but made to look antique.

for those who are not an antique lovers, this market is still a nice place to visit to see all the colorful stuff that are being sold there. most of the sellers are pretty nice and friendly. even tho they still try to rip u off but hey ure in china, where bargaining skill is included in the top 5 most important skills you must have.

would really like to visit this market again soon.

Panjiayuan is a great place to get a "one-shot look" at all thats available here in the way of antiques, handicrafts, ceramics etc. These days is less of a true antique market since 90 percent of whats there is brand new. Nevertheless there are neat finds hidden in the junk and regardless even if its new, if you like it, then just buy it!

A place not to miss.

Everything 'antique', pottery, lacquer ware, porcelain, paintings, clocks, statuettes, beads, jade, coins, brass-ware, books, records, fans, and on and on and on.

Almost full day out, a truly wonderful way to spend a few hours. There is even a great coffee stall for a little relief from the cold. If you do go during winter take cloves, a scarf, an extra jacket and a warm hat... or prepare to freeze.

Make sure you visit the traders on the periphery (south east corner and east side) you may find some very interesting items. Bargain like crazy. By the way gently hitting the trader on the arm and muttering "hiyaa you ah", whilst smiling and then making a downward gesture with your hand can get a laugh and perhaps a slightly cheaper price.

Even before I lived here (when I was a tourist), I found this to be one of Beijing's highlights. With its hustle and bustle this is a truly wonderful place and a feast for your senses.
