The wall is about 12 meters high and usually has 7 ropes. There are multiple routes by colored tapes next to the grips.

I live in Shenyang and would like to come down on a weekend to check out the wall. Can you tell me how tall it is and if you have routes set up? Thank you very much.

Dear climbing friend, if you come to Beijing just drop by the Ritan park any day between 10am to 9pm. You do not need a partner as the club has staff to belay you. The cost for climbing here per day is 40.-RMB. A contact number is 138-0105-2361.
If you want to join a climb on the weekends outside of Beijing, it is best to come to the park a day or two before that. It depends on weather and people's schedules who will actually go out and to which location. And that is usually not planned long in advance.
Hope to see you around. Enjoy your trip to Beijing.

The Touchstone climbing wall is equipped for top rope climbing. If you come by alone or come for the first few times you will be belayed by the trained and experienced Touchstone staff. If you bring a partner, please make sure that your partner is experienced in belaying. If you have any questions the staff can give advice and training to make sure safety is ensured.

Can you describe some of the safety measures at Touchstone or the training/qualifications of your staff?

I'm sad the outdoor season is over. My usual haunt, Ritan Park's Touchstone wall features the best outdoor climbing wall in Beijing and draws the biggest, baddest members of the local climbing community. The wall is 15m high, with routes up a fairly vertical wall, slightly sloped wall and a challengingly overhanging wall. There is also a very small bouldering area. The climbing wall is textured (great for those feature-only feet drills) and the routes range from easy to challenging. Its a great place in the fall and spring, and is climbable in the summer, but the grips get pretty hot during the day, but get in the shade at about 3pm. the bouldering wall at Ole (near Dawang Lu) is much better and has drawn some of the more gifted climbers away from Ritan, but for me, the chance to play outside is well worth the effort.
They rent shoes and harnesses at the wall (beware if you run big in either) and have a helpful staff that can belay you, though their english is limited. The facilities are open way past dark and they light up the wall with flood lights until about 9pm.
If climbing is your thing, there are nice outdoor areas in Baihe, Huairou and Shidu (actually, Sidu) that are accessable by the long distance bus station at DZM, then another 100RMB round trip van ride.
