Description -
First built in 1694 by Chinese emperors who were fascinated by Tibetan Buddhism, Yonghe Gong (also known as "Lama Temple") housed Tibetan and Mongolian monks that lived and taught at the monastery; there are still monks in residence today. The temple most famous for the 18m statue of the Maitreya Buddha carved from a single piece of sandalwood. RMB25 entrance fee.
