There are plenty cultural activities year around. The city is very safe and people are friendly in general. Rent is low by EU and US standard but not by Chinese standard. It's not hard to find decent and affordable hotels located in the center (within third ring). Interaction with both Chinese and foreigners are available at your choosing. Beijing's modern infrastructure surely copied many things from the cities of Europe. Typical continental weather - steaming summer and freezing weather. That's nothing I can change. The public transportation is not bad and improving, I like it. I liked the size of the old Beijing better from the 1980s, it has became too big nowadays. I remember seeing more blue sky days back then. If would be a better city if the pollution is cut down drastically, few cars on the road and more accessible efficient public transportation in every corner of the city. I could live without the constant fume generated by people smoking everywhere. That said, it's a lively city with great food and real-time transformation surrounding its residents. As more international residents and visitors pour in, we can see Beijing offer even a wider choice of cuisines and facilities to match.
