I came here to kill some time between appointments. Location is convenient, service was fine. But I ordered a mango smoothie (¥40), and I got iced mango. The coffee tastes like instant, and is served in a glass without a handle. How am I supposed to pick it up?
I don't remember the amount of times I've been at Palms, but I do remember it's plenty. I love Korean food and I love love love Mexican food so when I found out there is a Korean-Mexican fusion restaurant in Beijing, I was so excited! The kalbi taco - my all time fave - is to die for. Second best for me would be the quesadillas! I can almost memorize the menu now and my faves are the Korean fried chicken, loaded fries (LOADED!), any tacos, cheesy bibimbap and empanadas. They usually have a special dessert every week so ask the waiters what they have! And if they don't, their panqueques are deelish! Besides great food, the atmosphere is great with a warm vibe, the service is impeccable and always with a smile, friendly owner and to top it all off, awesome music!
I've visited this place several times as it's close to my work. My impression is a bit mixed. The menu is great: fresh juices, Rickshaw Roasters coffee and healthy sandwiches, salads and muffins.
But: the chocolate muffins taste a bit old (I tried a couple of times), the cappuccino comes without foam, they never have the soy milk that they offer as an alternative to milk on the menu. And...they always have the same CD on repeat (Mariah Carey...anyone?).
The good thing: the place is quiet (apart from lunchtime), so it's an excellent place to work!
I don't know the background story of Backyard Cafe, but it feels as if the (previous?) owner had great intentions when they started, but now it's not what it was meant to be.
Moka Bros has become the best reason for me to visit Sanlitun from my Gulou home. They serve healthy, fresh and very tasty food. Very unique combo in Beijing, I think! Very suitable for vegetarians and vegans too!!
I've had their olive-dip (great!), bean dip (nice!), fresh juices (always good), goat's cheese and mushroom sandwich (very nice, although doesn't beat the one at Bocata), mozzarella salad (good) and more. The prices are very reasonable for Sanlitun-standards. The portions are good too!
The only thing I like a bit less is the service. You need to order at the counter and the staff is not always very friendly. But well, in such a busy place that's very forgivable ; ) I really hope we'll see more places like this in Beijing!
