South German Bakery Description

No surprises here given the name, this place is indeed a South German-style bakery offering up a range of tasty homemade cakes, pastries, sandwiches and even hot dishes in the upstairs restaurant. German expats and fans of the bakery's heavier breads love this place. Their rye bread is the real deal.

Soft pretzels and a delicious carrot cake (topping was a bit strange, however). I would come back here again to try more of their awesome cakes!

When I went here late one night after dinner, this bakery only had a handful of bread left. So, I only bought a few sourdough loafs and pretzels. What I did buy, however, was very authentic and delicious. I will definitely come here again, earlier in the day, to buy more bread and pastries!

It looks and smells like in Germany. They offer a great range of bread and cakes. I love their Poppy seed cake. Though saleswomen in Germany are friendlier !

I went there this morning with thee girl friends for brunch. Cafe Konstanz has a reputation that is well worth it. At 12 in the afternoon it was packed with the vibrancy of the expat community in all the best possible ways. Above the vivacious chats we ordered their hearty German breakfasts of amazing over easy eggs that tasted like my mother land back home, and wonderful bread baskets. The brown and black breads taste like the earth, whole and healthy and rich. The assortment of butter, jams, honey, and marmalade were unbeatable, and it was only two late that I realized I had devoured the entire of contents of that basket.
This is a charming brunch and would do any German proud.

This is my little hidden gem for brunch. They offer one of the better breakfast if you love your fresh baked breads with 5 different assortments of home made jams. The food and service is amazing, and best of all, free wifi.

Possibly also the variable of humidity and different climate? hmm and I usually buy my bread in loaves, so I haven't encountered the hassle of asking for slices.

Good question?! Nowadays the bakery business is almost completely industrialized and large scale, my guess is that either the bread is baked ahead of time before it hits the shelf or the have some additives which make it possible to slice right away.

I would suggest to buy a big bread knife and you slice it yourself.

Hi Chrisbert, I understand that this could be a problem, but how do they solve this in Europe?

Hey ilse, they only slice it after 12:00 because before it is too fresh to slice. Freshly baked warm bread has the characteristic to be still a little bit sticky inside... it has to rest for a while.

Just my two cents!

The price and quality of the bread is European but the service is not. You can not buy sliced bread until after 12.00!!!!!!

If you charge European prices and you advertise that your product is European you should provide service accordingly. There is no self respecting Bakery in Europe that would tell it's customers that it can not provide sliced bread until after 12.00, any such bakery would soon go out of business.

The bakery is the best in town. I haven't found one I like better. Even Kempi Deli can't live up to the SGB, both in taste and price.

Bread is good but a bit on the pricey side. I can get pretty OK bread at other places like BreadTalk without the heftier price tag. But their variety can't be beat. Also, they stock my favorite farm fresh gouda cheese!

**Mmm smell the bread!** If you are homesick, just go there! The smell of fresh baked bread and home-made pastries brings you back to your home place! They are just authentic.

The staff is very kind and always smiling.

My favorites: Alpenschpitz, Mohn Stange, Kaese Stange, Toast Bread and Baguette.

Favotites of my guests: Schwarzwaelder Torte

**A great place** After a long time of surching in Beijing, I finally found a place, where you can get absolutely original German bakery goods. Specially the bread, I was missing here for a long time, is as good as at home. The sales girls are very friendly and helpful. A place I feel well. Would like to recommend it to all, foreigners as well as locals.
