Comment and Reviews Policy
City Weekend’s Comment and Review Policy
We love comments and reviews. We really do.
They’re as important as anything we write ourselves. Well-written reviews help readers decide what is good or bad in the city.
They all add to the knowledge and community that we have here. Inevitably some comments and reviews fall outside the realm of the acceptable.
Some spiral off into flame wars.
Some are deliberate attempts to harm a business.
Some are deliberate attempts to boost a business.
None of them are acceptable on City Weekend.
City Weekend has the most reliable user reviews in the city.
How? Because we have standards for what constitutes a valuable review and we maintain constant vigilance over what comes over the site.
We’ve combed the web for guidance on online posting and in order to make our comments and reviews useful and interesting.
We reserve the right to delete any of the following comments or reviews:
Spam. That’s right: you spam and you automatically get banned without notification.
Anything that’s not "on topic". Basically these are comments which are not responding to other comments, the content in the listing, article or blog post. In terms of restaurants, this means that the comment doesn’t evaluate an actual eating experience at the restaurant and instead dwells on rumor or second-hand information. We value first person experience.
Anything that insults or defames the writer of the article/blog post, other commenter/reviewers or personnel who work at a venue. If you call the manager out by name, we’re going edit you.
Anything that contains personal information (addresses, phone numbers, etc) about the comment author or others.
Anything that threatens, invites or encourages violence.
Anything that is intentionally misleading or makes false statements.
Anything that was posted by competitors slandering a rival business.
Anything falsely posted by a business in order to promote its own business.
Anything that violates, plagiarizes or infringes the rights of third parties including, copyright, trademark, trade secret, confidentiality, contract, patent or rights of privacy.
Anything that is generally vulgar, hateful, obscene or profane. Keep it civil folks, it's a family website.
Anything that violates the laws of the PRC. We live here people and our site is hosted here and we follow the laws of the land.
MOST COMMON SCENARIOS
Someone writes a bad review of a restaurant and the restaurant asks us to remove it. What we do is try to mediate between the commenter and the business. We’ll never give a business a user’s information unless the user authorizes it. Most of the time the business and the commenter work it out between themselves. If they can’t, we don’t delete, unless we judge that the comment violates one of the above policies.
A venue writes fake reviews about how great it is. These are usually easy to spot. Most of the time they come from first-time reviewers and are five stars. We contact the user and ask for more specifics about their experience at a venue. If they don’t write back, the comment gets deleted. If they do write back and we aren’t convinced, the comment gets deleted. We are after quality reviews, not quantity.
As a general practice, all five star and zero star reviews get flagged by us. We contact the user and ask for more specifics. If they don’t write back, the review gets deleted.
EDITING AND DELETION POLICY
Once you post information to the City Weekend website (whether it is a comment, review, or a venue listing), it becomes part of the public conversation. We will not remove a user's comments, reviews or venue listing information unless they are in violation of our Comment and Review Policy. If a venue racks up a ton of negative comments, we’re not going to delete the listing and let them start over from scratch.
We hope we never have to, but if a user repeatedly abuses our Comment and Review Policy, we delete all of their comments on every post without warning, disable their account and ban their IP address.
FINE PRINT
City Weekend does not accept responsibility for information posted by users.
