Blending a Hollywood theme with that of a luxury space shuttle, this 2,000-capacity, 3,000 sq. meters club has made a name as one of Beijing's better megaclubs with a consistent house and techno music policy accented by visits from top international DJs.

This dance club redefined the Beijing club experience when it opened in 2004, eschewing neon affectation for a roomier, multi-level, multi-room design. Several remodelings later, Tango is still a great place to party, but KTV encroachment has diminished the space in which to do it. Nonetheless, it's one of the few big clubs in town to regularly feature big DJ names hot on the global club circuit.

Though the cement walls are less than inviting, this two-floor nightspot is one of Beijing's classiest and most lively (mostly male) gay clubs. Accented by red couches and dark walls, this is the place to dance the night away on the bouncy floor or chill out and guy-scope.

Designed, financed and managed by Beijing DJs and electronic musicians, this subterranean puts music first. The booming techno beats make even dance music skeptics weak in the knees.

Part of a successful Hong Kong chain, Hei Hei Club has found a Beijing home amid Gongti’s neon ghetto. Hei Hei fits right in, the glittering disco balls and ornate chandeliers looking achingly familiar. The drinks menu is low on fuss, with a small selection of beers and super-strong cocktails.Just one Long Island Iced Tea was enough to send us dashing for the dance floor, where hip-hop tunes are matched by the accompanying videos on flat-screen TVs. The mostly local crowd comes well-dressed and eager to party. However, with little to distinguish the club besides its extravagant bathrooms – complete with snakeskin countertops – Hei Hei won’t do much to shake up expat nightlife.
