Description
When I first moved to Beijing as an international student from Siberia, I didn’t know much about surviving abroad by myself, let alone fashion trends. Now, after two years spent in China I look back at this amazing journey, which helped me discover myself not only as professional but also as a fashionista. Where I come from, your everyday outfit choice is pretty much guided by two rules – less experimenting, more practical. Choosing an outfit I always had to balance between a strong desire to stand out and fear of being frowned upon for doing it. Black seems to be everyone’s year-round first choice. Beijing helped me realize that it’s great to be able to stand out, wear what you want, combine different colors and fabrics and get smiled at, not frowned upon, on the streets. The unique combination of western and eastern lifestyle in Beijing, and here I’m talking people, architecture, culture, nightlife, food, and of course – fashion, gives you lots of opportunities to be stylish and fashionable in your own way. What makes me Beijing fashionista is the fact that I learned how to use them. Living in Beijing definitely taught me that no matter where you got it - could be a designer dress from a hip boutique or no-brand-whatsoever outfit you discovered in one of Gulou’s hidden gems - being confident about what you wear is the most important. The price you pay for your look is usually affordable, but the way it makes you feel – that is priceless.
